I think it was a successful attempt to keep the film unsaturated, therefore ensuring it remained unique and mysterious.
It worked fine until the internet, in my opinion – when images of Regan started to be easily accessible and thus ruin the mystique.
NECA just bought the merchandise license and are producing figurines (The Spider Walk and the BobbleHead have been released), with more to come in the near future.
How come after all these years, Warner Bros has not come out with Linda Blair Dolls or masks or any other merchandise besides shirts and posters? There’s a lot of merchandise that could be made for Halloween. Does anybody know why? e.g. make up kits, Halloween displays, etc?
That cult films spiderwalk is very nice. Bought it last week for under 20 bucks & would buy more if I ever saw stuff. There really should be more merchandise given the clout of the studio to peddle it to the masses and the calibre of a pic like “The Exorcist”.
I agree with everyone here. It amazes me how idiotic WB has been when it comes to marketing this franchise (because that’s exactly what The Exorcist is in terms of marketing).
We see collector’s items for the most famous films like Gone with the Wind, yet WB just lets this one ride. I believe someone at WB (perhaps even Blatty as producer) is missing the boat on one of their prized films. Plus, if they do sell merchandise, I truly believe it would intrigue (and perhaps captivate) more viewers …
