ParticipantIt’s good, but I think it’s actually too minimal and generic, just as with “PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST” makes too much.
I humbly suggest you make it THE DOMINION.
Besides, a majority of “fine films” have THE as a first word in the title, anyway. 🙂 The Godfather, The French Connection, The Exorcist, The Illusionist, The Prestige, The Day The Earth Stood Still, and many others. “THE” Just gives it real power and feeling, makes it stronger. Amazing what a little word can do!
We have THE EXORCIST. Just “EXORCIST” would be… too minimal.
And since this prequel (the better of the two prequels) is a nice companion piece to the original, it just seems more balanced to refer to the films like so:
The Dominion
The Exorcist
The Exorcist
The Dominion
Not imbalance or lop-sided like this:
The Exorcist
Dominion
Dominion
The Exorcist
Please consider and sound it out: The Dominion. No plain “Dominion” and no bizarre, clumsy “Prequel to the Exorcist”. Just my opinion. No pressure. 😉

Participantwell I’ll never put PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST back on screen, artwork is fine.
The Title itself is something Is something that can be changed at the last minute.
I tell ya what I’ll do one with “THE” in it and post it.
T first I was going to use the first Exorcist prequel title that id herd of “EORCIST:DOMINION”
but I didn’t like the idea of actually haveing Exorcist in the title, because Merrin is not yet an Exorcist.Even though Exorcist 3 does not show Legion in the title, alot of people call it that, and thats what I prefer to call it, even if it’s not Blatty’s original cut.
So I kinda picturd the trilogy.
DOMINION.
THE EXORCIST.
LEGION.
to me When i think of “THE DOMINION”
it feels like calling the book or movie of Hannibal “THE HANNIBAL”.But I respect and value your Input,
So Never say never.January 1, 2007 at 11:59 PM #16177ManInKhakiExorcist
ParticipantGood deal, Hatter. Thanks for the effort, as always. 🙂

ParticipantI decided to do a test of some variations of the title desine but with a differnt font, I prefer the Font thats used in the movie, but my editing program is the one thing I cant seem to use the font with, it’s actually kind of creepy, Like im being told don fuck with the title anymore than I have.
but here is a few examples, there just stills.

ParticipantHatter, nice work. Of those, I like black-on-white (second version downward on the left) the best. The “THE” on top is what makes it, mirroring the Friedkin film’s credits logo design.
I would offer, however, that it looks too much like that logo, so perhaps keeping the format of “THE” above “DOMINION”, but reverting back to the “classic” ‘Dominion’ style font. Luckily you should just be able to blow up the “THE” from the ‘PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST’ subtitle. Doing that, and keeping it black letters on white background retains the Schrader film identity, while evoking the Friedkin film; this way it’s not too forced.
By the way, I appreciate the “Hannibal” sentiment you shared. I would offer, though, “The Exorcist” and “The Dominion” are both phrases uttered in those respective films. Whereas with Hannibal, a specific human being, “Hannibal” is his name, not a title nore a role.
As always, just tryin’ to help, and opinionate. 😉

ParticipantI think it should be either just DOMINION or DOMINION w/ Prequel to The Exorcist after it. I don’t like the idea of THE DOMINION because we’re not really dealing with one (*THE*) “dominion” in the film.

ParticipantIn the words of Hannibal Lecter “You don’t make it easy do you? Still one aims to please. :]

ParticipantJusty, it is one Dominion in the film. The Devil’s dominion is this world, whreas God’s is in the hearts of those who call him God. Since the worldeverywhere, thus their moving the story from America to Africa, to show that evil knows no bounds and will go after anyone, white, female children (Georgetown) and older black, disabled men (Kenya).
Dominion could have even been the title for THE EXORCIST, but the Friedkin film focused on the one man; on a microcosm level; a bedroom, really, not a whole region in Africa.
This one, Dominion, focuses on a whole region, where evil effects not just the posessed in terrbile and original ways, cuasing Cheche to do evil yet becoming healthier and perfected.
Since there is one Dominion referenced in the Schrader film, I’d still to my opinion that it warrants “THE”. Sounds more imposing and creepier, too. Less generic and forgettable, like, say, when the word is used in a Star Trek episode, no offense Trek fans. 🙂

ParticipantWasn’t it a point in the film that the world is a dominion to our own devils, not The Devil himself? Though one can’t say that the world is only a dominion of evil. And one also can’t say the film is even about the devil. Can you really believe that Satan was locked inside that crypt? It’s Pazuzu.
Now maybe we could easily just say there’s one dominion in “EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING”, but the characters are not all 1 sided in “DOMINION”. Each individual person (and even animals/objects – the church) in the film is a dominion, weather it be to their own demons, The Devil/Pazuzu, or God.
Which brings me to my point that the title isn’t referring to just one dominion, we get to know the characters and understand what they’re going through – each one a dominion to something.
While ultimately it does become a dominion of God, the title shouldn’t refer to the end, because the film isn’t one sided – there’s more too it. Same goes for the original film. Does that make sense?

ParticipantGood points, and it does make perfect sense.
I just wonder then wouldn’t it have been a pluralized versions of the word (“Dominions”), if it were about multiple dominions? Not being sarcastic, Justy, just throwing it out to you. 🙂
Neither are terrible ideas as titles for this fan edit; I just think that The Dominion resonates and has the impact a serious Exorcist prequel or sequel warrants.
I think there is a primary dominion presented (with the others) in Schrader’s film. Therefore “The Dominion” could be more justified, I believe.
Great discussion, guys.

ParticipantI thought if that too, but then DOMINIONS: PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST doesn’t sound very good.
