ParticipantAfter reading the posts, I am amazed that anyone would want to remake The Exorcist. The technology today would be too fake as is apparent from The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen. We have to remember that what Dick Smith and others behind the scenes on the film did to bring the reality leading up to and throughout the exorcism to the screen. We have to remember the great actors in this film and their command performances. And, we have to admire the young director and writer that brought this film to quintessential life.
When The Exorcist: The Version You’ve Never Seen was released, I was disappointed in whoever gave the green light to put the CGI effects in to make it more up to date for audiences. Yes, the “spider walk” was great to see from an avid fan point of view, but the fake blood pouring from the stand-in actress’ mouth was disappointing and really added nothing to the overall impact of the film except the reaction from Ellen Burstyn. If you had never seen the film, you’d wonder why this scene and why now? Perhaps a novice watch would enjoy it? However, I agree with Billy Friedkin to not put the scene in because it was too soon in the film, and, quite frankly, looked “silly” for a film that was going for a documentary-style approach.
Again, The Exorcist: TVYNS is somewhat “dumbed down.” This is a psychological film … not a horror show. It’s not one that should exploit today’s special effects. And, that’s what’s going to happen with today’s technology.
I say, “Why waste the money and energy when you’ve already got the classic?” I guess we’ll be remaking Gone with the Wind and The Wizard of Oz next? The only thing … how could Hollywood replace the great actors and actress that gave all of these films their presence in classic moving-making history?

ParticipantHi Colobiancannon:
I’m sure there’s a TIN Man Sci-Fi Channel (production? – or – viewing?), just like The Wiz that was a royal loser reinvented with A-A performers. I just hope we can steer clear of classics that should not be tainted.
Thanks for your reply. I’ll keep an eye for other posts.
