KeymasterI believe it to be one of the most distracting and pointless subliminal images of the many unnecessarily featured in TVYNS.

ParticipantYeah, I agree with THAT, as well.

ParticipantYes, the extra images – except maybe the one in the Dr’s office – were gratuitous and overdone. Thanks everyone for your comments.

ParticipantGood explanation, granville1. Though I think it was an unnecessary shot. Imo, it’s confuses a clear scene.

ParticipantI liked the appearance of the mothers face in the window. I saw it as a kind of vision of Karra’s signaling his defeat over The Devil. I liked the Cptn. Howdy face in the Dr.s office especially becauses Reagan’s reaction is slightly curious or confused by it and it kinda growls at her. But its the perfedt spot for it. I also liked the enhanced effect over Regan’s face when she attacks the Psychiatrist who’s trying to hypnotise her. Everything else can go including the spider walk. If they were gonna use the previously shot footage they should have massively re-tooled it using todays effects cause it doesnt look like anything but a stunt woman riding a flying rig down a flight of stairs. Or, they should have just re shot it. Oooooorrrr maybe done something completely different like have Reagan scuttle across the ceiling like Mrs. Clelia in Legion, unseen by Chris and Sharon until Reagan is just above them, still clinging to the ceiling turns her head almost completely around to look down at them, they scream, she laughs and then falls to the floor violently and races towrds them on all fours.
Thanks for endulging my little screen writting jag there …

Participant#2, definitely. And, might I add: visages of Mary a la Jesus’ mum appearing to people all over the world in the likliest and unlikliest of places.

ParticipantThanks Blizzi for your comments. Yes, Mom’s face does confuse a clear scene. A scene that is crucial in understanding Karras’s single-minded motivation ought not be be muddled with gratuitous CG.

ParticipantHaha, wolfboyspike, it surprises me sometimes too. VERY creepy indeed!

ParticipantYeah, as much as I like TVYNS, I’d remove maybe half of the extras…

ParticipantYou are right Granville about Ellen Burstyn’s reaction in the orig spdr walk sc it is a shame to have lost that. I’m sure its been said a bazillion times but she is remarkable!
Captain Howdy your avatar spook me so bad …

Perfectly said. Sums it all up.

ParticipantNice comments re: re-tooling the spiderwalk. I would have preferred that they drop the bloody-mouth version and kept the creeping-around, long-tongue version. The latter was closer to what happens in the novel, and I think would blend in with the correct kind of fade-out.
I would hate to lose the scene completely, because we get to see another facet of Chris’s character. The look on her face right after Chuck leaves and she sees Regan spidering down the stairs, is priceless. Priceless in terms of her looking driven beyond endurance, and her look of total vulnerability. Whenever I see her turn from the wall and begin to see Regan, my heart goes out to her. Over and over again, every time I view this scene I choke up at “my poor friend Chris” being exposed to a new trauma.

ParticipantHmmm… Mary Karras. Blatty’s own mother’s name was Mary, and I believe Kinderman’s wife’s name is Mary, too.

ParticipantYes, it was Mary. He mentioned her name to Chris.
I didn’t remember Blatty’s mother’s name was MAry. 🙂
