ParticipantThat’s very sad news EKM. Any idea what happend to that VHS copy? It should have been in a vault somewhere. What a shame.

KeymasterVery sad news indeed 🙁 Talk was huge about it especially during The Beginning filming. One day, perhaps.
GREAT that you finally got to talk to Blatty, Erik! That’s awesome! Did you ask him any cool questions?

Participantperharps the version of LEGION in wich is insert the violent murder of the priest can be called “Director’s Cut”,because there is a rare scene that wasn’t in the first version

ParticipantI wish they had kept Jason Miller’s name out of the opening credits. For those who DIDN’T read the book, it would have been a huge JOLT to see Karras.

ParticipantCan’t they just cut the final exorcism out and use CGI to give us a different ending????

ParticipantJust came across this:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/markkermode/2009/01/more_points_of_you_part_two.html
Mark Kermode talks about re-implementing the lost Legion footage as “ongoing,” and also talks about the original spiderwalk vs. the one in TVYNS. This was put online just the other week!

ParticipantThis is something that has gotten to me for a while. If Morgan Creek really did look and came up with none of the missing footage, then what of these scenes that appeared in the E! “Curse of The Exorcist” documentary?
Here is the feature itself:
http://legion.theninthconfiguration.com/rare/cote/
And here are some screen captures from it:

I mean, just look! Behind the scenes video footage exists of Father Morning being directed; Nurse X being directed, and so on. They were only very, very brief clips. Surely there must exist an entire archive full of stuff like that just begging to be released on a deluxe version of the DVD? At the very LEAST!

Participantdoesnt mr blatty have a vhs copy of Legion? I am really hoping Mark Kermone can find the lost footage. realistically speaking what are our chances?? is it high? Please respond Thanks

ParticipantJust so we all understand:
There will be NO director’s cut of LEGION. That famous VHS copy that Kermode wrote about no longer exists. What this means is that the version of EXORCIST III that we all know and love (or at least some of us know and love) is all you’re gonna get.
I have this on good authority: Blatty himself told me.
So we can all stop talking about a Special Edition DVD. Unfortunately, it isn’t going to happen.

ParticipantHi Ryan. I guess it depends on where the footage you’ve grabbed comes from! It could be from the archives of the company who made the behind-the-scenes doco, rather than where Morgan Creek or Warners keeps its film elements.
Hi demonregan.
Mark Kermode said he saw it many years go, but I read somewhere on this site that it no longer exists.
As for the footage ever being found, it depends on what happened to it. I would be surprised if it had been outrightly destroyed and only Universal seem to have fires in their storerooms, so my best guess is that it’s been misfiled. And when you’re talking about the sheer mass of film elements, you’re talking about a needle in a haystack!
It might well be in storage somewhere, but short of a major time-consuming search, I’s say chances of an imminent find are pretty slim!
Remember, it took something like 80 years to get all of Metropolis’s footage back together!!
