I’d always thought American kids could have gotten their Halloween costumes in early October. At least these days, costumes and things for any number of Holidays are put out for sales weeks or months in advance. I used to toil at Target and we had Halloween costumes eons before the big day.

Anyway, the kids in the film might just be enjoying their new costumes. The bigger question might be: “Do the leaves fall like that in Georgetown way back in EARLY October…?” 🙂

In the novel, Karras dies on or around Mothers’ Day, in May… the Fall scenes in Georgetown, though, definitely add an element of spookiness…

Perhaps but these kids were obviously shown going from one door to the next with bags of candy.

I recenttly watched Exorcist(TVYNS)and EIII back to back.

I notices that Karris’s tombstone stated that Karris died on the 8th of October, 1975.

However on the begining of Excorist while Christie McNeal was walking home from the movie shoot, there were kids walking around in costumes trick or treating which gave me the impression that it was October 31st.

Also wasn’t The Exorcist set in 1974?

Not only that, how could Karras and Kinderman been “best friends?”
They only knew each other for about a minute!

And when and why did they take that picture of the two of them that Kinderman owned?!?

As much as I appreciate and share your frustration, here’s my take — one first more or less articulated by the great EKM of (Bloody News fame) — an explanation I believe to be true:

Blatty had a new and different story to tell in LEGION/EXORCIST III, and made sure that not even the original film and book got in the way. He changed things, and shoe-horned in the friendship. In the film and book it works, but not so much as a sequel; too ‘Twilight Zone’, and it takes us right out of the story.

Blatty just decided to update and overhaul his saga a bit. Very well; he gave us an even better book and film (with Friedkin) already. 🙂
