    Hi and Welcome!

I will give this a stab, but I’m sure we have better experts on this website such as Ryan regarding WPB’s address and Sofia for the novel. Here’s what I found and what I believe to be true:

    Question 1:

    Removed by Administrator

    Question 2:

    Burke Voice via Regan’s Body:
“Do you know what she did, your cunting daughter?”

Are you thinking that Burke is speaking throughout the entire crucifix masturbation scene? If so, that voice is Mercedes McCambridge as the male voice/demon with the lines from the script that follows (notice it is not from the novel, but the script). Note that McCambridge as both the male voice and demon often crosses the lines of interpretation as to whether it is a uniquely different voice in the beginning that transitions):

    REGAN
    Please! No!

    MALE VOICE
    Do it!

    REGAN
    Please no!

    MALE VOICE
You bitch! Do it! Do it!

Chris races up the stairs and runs to Regan’s room.

    REGAN
    No! Please! No!

Chris opens the door and sees objects rapdly flying around the
room. We hear a last gasp scream from Regan untill Chris turns to
Regan and covers her mouth with horror.

    REGAN/DEMON
    Let Jesus fuck you!

Regan has the crucifix gripped in her hand and is plunging it
into her bloodied vagina. There are fresh cuts all over her face,
    streaming with blood.

    REGAN/DEMON
Let Jesus fuck you! Let him fuck you!!!

Chris runs over to Regan and tries to pry the crucifix from her
hand. They struggle for the crucifix. Regan then grabs Chris’
head and pushes it into her bloodied crotch.

    REGAN/DEMON
    Lick me! Lick me!

Chris’ face emerges covered with Regan’s blood. Regan slaps her
mother and sends her flying to the floor. Chris screams in pain.
Sharon and Willie race up the stairs.

    SHARON
    Chris?

The door closes by itself being held shut by a chair. They both
bag on the door to help her. Chris looks up to see that Regan’s
wardrobe is moving toward her. Chris scurries out of the way. We
turn back to Regan who is sitting with her back to us, but she
has spun her head in a 180-degree angle, facing backward (Chris).
    Chris looks up at her.

    REGAN/BURKE
Do you know what she did, your cunting daughter?

Chris turns away and screams, bursting into tears.

Let us know what your project is about that is so urgent that it requires WPB address and your second question. Just curious.

You're welcome. Mine post is definitely from the film script.

Again, we have a real “exorcist” on here regarding the novel. Her name is Sofia and she has it memorized.

Sof? I'd like to know too because it is an interesting question.

I know there is some part in the book where she mimics his voice, asking for a drink. I think *not sure though* it was during an “interview” that Father Karras did.

    Just trying to help. 🙂

Sorry, only now I'm reading this, FatherB! HAhaha!, “exorcist regarding the novel”

“i was actually talking about the part in the book when she is talking to father karras…and she says something in burke's voice explaining how regan (or the demon) killed him (: “

    That is during the exorcism!

-Karras opened up his eyes and saw the Dennings personality.

“Look, she killed me. Not our innkeeper, Karras – she! Oh, yes, indeed!” It was nodding affirmation. “She! I was minding my business at the bar, you see, when I thought I heard her moaning. Upstairs. Well, now, I had to see what ailed her, after all, so up I went and don't you know she bloody took me by the throat!” The voice was whiny now; pathetic. “I've never in my life seen such strength! Began to scream that I was diddling her mother or something, or that I caused the divorce. Some such thing. It wasn't clear. But I tell you, she pushed me out the bloody window!” …..

Sof, this may be the explanation as to why individuals make the assumption that Regan truly felt this way toward Dennings when, in fact, Blatty wrote the word “it” as the source. “It was nodding affirmation.” “It” was using Dennings voice to deceive Karras with words that Regan could have used or “some such thing.”

Interesting … your thoughts? Did Regan truly feel this way? Did the demon use Regan's beliefs as the catalyst for the murder? Was Regan even conscious during the murder?

Yes I believe so! Regan of the novel seems to feel resentment towards Dennings, Blatty shows us that in the tuck into bed passage when she sullenly states that Chris is going to marry him. She's neither smiling nor giggling there like Linda is in the movie.

I don't how to answer to “Was Regan even conscious during the murder” she was heavily sedated, so, hmm… we could ask that to bastasch8647 on imdb. He writes such interesting & intellectual texts of The Exorcist! You'd love to read them!

Sof, good information about the novel. Again, Blatty's thoughtful use of prose in making us guess or either direct each reader in to different directions about just what's happening. It's the process that Blatty makes so interesting.

I love how Blatty shows us the characters feelings instead of telling us. Do you know what I mean?

Indeed, I do. This is how incredible writers are separated from the norm. To never reveal the subtle nuances while directly inflecting them is a unique ability.
