Cold nights ruin most camping trips, and small gas heaters often run out too fast. Many recommend diesel-based solutions, but I worry about fumes and maintenance. How safe are portable diesel units for tents or van setups?

Used to rely on propane heaters in my tent, but moisture and smell were always an issue. When I switched to a portable diesel heater, nights got way more comfortable. The trick is venting always keep the exhaust completely outside and never block air inlets. These units burn cleanly when maintained well, so no fumes build up. I also keep a CO detector nearby for peace of mind. Once it’s set right, the warmth is steady, quiet, and way more fuel-efficient than I expected.
