I mean, how could you adleast make a decent finale? I was thinking something like, when Regan looks in her room and sees the evil Regan, she screams and the screen goes black. THE END.

No it doesn’t resolve anything but it is a twist ending.

Is it possible to make a good finale on Exorcist II. What can I do to make it a good finale. Things that are terrible are:

1. “No. He has chosen me. Pazuzu’s Regan is the only Regan.” (That has to go.)

2. Tearing out her evil heart.

3. The wings are brushing me and Lamont smooching on Regan.

I think the ending is fine the way it is. It suits the film perfectly.

Howdy all!

Heretic Dream, here. I’m just making my first footprints on the message board.

I love humor and good natured sarcasm. Still, I hope you good folks don’t beat each other up too badly over having different opinions. I can be as strident and passionate as the next person, but in general, I consider myself to be a good locust…LOL!

I am actually one of those who really enjoys watching THE HERETIC. In fact, it’s playing on my system right now. I could tear it apart with ease: after all, there are HUGE holes in the plot. Yet I think it is sorely underappreciated, and very entertaining. The most disappointing sequel of all time? Maybe. The worst film, or even one the worst films EVER? Not EVEN!

So, back on topic for Father Lamont:

Since it is my firm belief that the swarm of locusts that appear at the climax are indeed evil spirits and not physicaly genuine, it is also my feeling that the destruction of the Georgetown House is only perceived by those who have been connected by synch: Regan, Lamont and Gene. Why you ask? I shall tell you…

The battle between the doppelganger Regan, Lamont and Regan herself took place on a spiritual plane…and NOT in the physical world. SO!

I would cut in a view of the house, unharmed and whole, with the exception of the taxi wreckage. In the film the light of the syncronizer strobes with the last shot on Gene’s face, which of course signifies her understanding of the spiritual victory that has just taken place.

Instead of “strobbing” in to the cast credits, the screen should strobe completely white; show the house (strobe white) then pan over to the darkness of the M Street stairs…and the trilling of Tubular Bells (before sequeing to the Morriconne score) to show that while evil has been defeated for now…it always there…waiting!!! The sequence of Tubular Bells ends with the last sharp note (as it does), ending at the bottom of the stairs. The screen goes momentarily black, and then strobes white into the credits…and Regan’s theme.

I’m off to post more of my ramblings on THE HERETIC in another thread, so as to save space for other ideas. Even if you HATE the film as I once did (untill I didn’t!), please take a shot at adding your own idea.

I just got around to reading your suggestion, and it probably would be an improvement.  Good ideas.

However, I also agree that to fix the film, one would almost have to shoot an entirely new film to incorporate the few good scenes, and even these would have to be heavily edited or dubbed to remove the clumsiness and unintentional humor.

As Regan and Lamont are about to walk off after the locust swarm and the heart ripping, the Monty Python knight walks up to Lamont and hits him over the head with a rubber chicken. The End!
