ParticipantNice! I guess the dream sequence is kind of cool, in some off the wall weird way. I have never noticed BD as Damien. Have to check that out.

ParticipantI always wondered if the man in the glass tube is Dourif in cassock – interesting that Blatty kept Dourif-as-Karras in – though it’s such a short flash no one but fans is likely to notice…

ParticipantYeah, but first let me say that The Exorcist III is indeed much, much better than I’d ever thought, even studio-sanitized as it is; I caught things, like below, that I’d never caught, found performances to be better, and the story to be presented more smoothly. I guess just re-visiting the film with an older set of eyes, having not seen it in so long, really helps appreciate a flawed film to its fullest.
Anyhoo, so, being such a fan of Byzantine art, architecture, and church history, I was amazed to only now recognize the Hagia Sophia (from what is formerly Constantinople, now-Istanbul, Turkey). Emperor Justinian built the classic Byzantine church centuries before it was taken as war booty by invading Islam. Anyway, the interior of the hospital structure in Kinderman’s dream sequence show’s what appears to be the real McCoy — the church-turned-Mosque-turned-museum. 🙂 It’s really cool. Apparently they spliced footage of the actors; otherwise, they built it a set of it from scratch… I wonder if this sequence inspired or informed William Wisher, true originator of the buried-church Exorcist prequel story. When I saw the beams of light passing through the windows of the dome interior, I couldn’t help but think of the prequels and the legendary Wisher draft “Exorcist: Dominion”. Check it out: 25:35 into the film. Someone, please YOUTUBE this. 😛
Taco Bell chewwawa (take that, spellchecker!) shows up. 26:03; a syringe (oh my!) 26:04; and WHO’S THAT at (26:05) — Brad Dourif as Damien Karras (before the gutting and recasting if the film with Jason M.)?! And the Angel of Death aka. Patrick Ewing with a deck of Tarot Cards (borrowed from Sarah the woman doctor in Renny Harlin’s E:TB?) 26:50.
Dyer gets Ragsy wit it. 27:28.
And how about this one — 29:43 — parallel imagery to Regan’s dinner party leaking? Yes, I am serious. 😮
THOUGHTS?
Oh, yeah, and back up to 21:00 — what’s with that nun? And is that dog indeed sensing evil…? 😛
