I can confirm The Exorcist is due on HD-DVD. Whether or not any extra features will be included is yet to be determined. I am about to post an open letter to Warner Brothers on the main page of this site on behalf of all Exorcist fans who visit The Exorcist Fansite requesting they consider our suggestions for material to be included.

We hope to be in direct contact with their Home Entertainment and DVD release staff (of whom I have names). The letter is typed and is ready to be posted – I’m just getting http://www.captainhowdy.com ready for the attention, including an appropraite comments thread so reasonable suggestions can be posted, and a nice looking page for the actual letter to be displayed.

I know it has been a long time coming and thank you for your patience. It will start very very soon!

WB executives who make it all happen:

My primary request is: make an equivelent “regular” DVD version, with as many discs as is necessary to contain what the HD one will have special features-wise. I’ll pay the money, that I assure you.

Otherwise, I know an Australian who might have to make one for me. I wouldn’t pay him, of course; that would be bootlegging — and as a fan of your establishment much of the time, piracy I do not condone when financed with physical money.

I think that sums it up. Well, let me add this:

There will be MANY fans who would buy a standard DVD version of whatever you put on HD-DVD. It’s a no-brainer, WB: you need to please EVERYONE, even the behind-the-times millions and millions of film fans happy with their current home theater setup.

Yeah, Mike, better than buying a whole new machine! I would also love it if they could come up with the original 1973 version on dvd… I’ve always wanted to see that.

Okay, dumb question … what on Earth will a HD version of gives us terms of quality? Wouldn’t we still be seeing a film shot on a 70mm film with old equipment? The DVD restoration removing the blotches and threads is great. But, what happens when you convert a DVD to HD?

Help … don’t know.

HD = fashionable gimmick for the interested public = restoration of WB’s bank account after their pact with Morgan Creek proved… expensive, each of three times.

Uneducated guess, but factual? I sure hope not.

M.I.K.E., I agree with you about WB. Perhaps they will release a PSP version and a Blu-Ray version. The Exorcist: The PSP Version You’ve Never Seen BEFORE. The Exorcist: The Blu-Ray Version You’ve Never Seen AGAIN! 🙂
