Maybe its just the quality of the pic or its just a weird angle but doesn't it look like Captain Howdy was supposed to have a lion-like mane?
Now that you mention it, it does look that way. Maybe it was one of Dick Smith's lost Captain Howdy looks.

Yep. Head of a lion or dog.

You're welcome. Perhaps that's true as far as the original concept. I'm sure Blatty (and Smith) did research on Pazuzu from various libraries (remember … the internet didn't even exist as a concept then). I am sure their research was more accurate versus the “junk” we're often fed on the web now.

ParticipantYeah. Tell me about it. I rather read what a book has about demons then online.

KeymasterReading your praise for the book and clarifying some facts makes my day, Justin. I'm glad it's a good read and I'm very much looking forward to getting my hands on it in the near future. Thanks for the awesome excerpts.

Friedkin's ideas for the subliminal images were heavily inspired by Onibaba, which could possibly explain the big hair in the early tests.

ParticipantIs this Eileen, and if so, was this scene used?

KeymasterI believe that's a double from Exorcist II: The Heretic, not Eileen performing in The Exorcist.
