I've got nothing against “The Shining” although I agreed with Rex Reed when he described it as a 'pretentious load'. For content I preferred the 1990s mini series which better captured the fine novel over 3 nights. But Entertainment weekly picked it as the no 1 scary movie this year with “The Exorcist” trailing at no 2. How could this be? Am I missing something & is “The Shining” on par with “The Exorcist”?

    *gulp*

It's on par… how DARE I admit that, right? OK I take that back–

The themes The Exorcist explores are much deeper. The Exorcist stands as a more genre-changing horror film.

But The Shining is by Kubrick… and it's fucking brilliant.  I'm happy for that film to beat The Exorcist to number 1 because I can see how it could be seen that way (especially today, as The Exorcist slowly gets dated with people *sniff*).

Had it been, like, TWILIGHT, we could kick up a fuss. But make no mistake, The Shining has very awesome things going on and is without-a-doubt a horror classic. One of my faves.

Every time The Shining is on television, I watch it. I've seen it, oh, about 200 times. The only disturbing thing is the casting of Shelly Duvall … she is as drab as dirty dish water.

    Here's Johnny!
