Today I saw The Tibetan Book of the Dead in my University bookstore, so I grabbed it.

Interesting book. Jung suggested reading backward as a model of psychological development, i.e., start with the clear light from which the psyche (theoretically) evolves and follow the chain back down to the crystallized ego.

Wow, I’ve never heard of that… It sounds interesting, although I don’t think I could pick a book whose end I want to find out first… Possibly Stephen King’s Thinner. Only book I haven’t finnished on purpose. I can read upside down, but I don’t suppose that does any good. 🙂

I am presently attempting to make a list of texts Blatty has referred to throughout his books, in order to gain an even better understanding of his philosophies which I so admire.

I am re-reading Legion at the moment, to assist in the next TNC.com section I am going to launch for inconsistencies with the book/film, but thought this would also be a good endeavor. Once we’ve read all that Blatty has to offer, why not branch off and read what he has read?

    To get to the point:

Human Destiny by Lecomte Du Noüy

(This book is seen on Kane’s desk in The Ninth Configuration, and also mentioned by Blatty in the audio commentary. It is where Blatty discovered The Ninth Configuration theory)

The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky

(Kinderman makes reference to this many a time in Legion, relating it to the problem of evil)

The Origin Of Species by Charles Darwin

(Again, Kinderman takes an extract from this and mentions it to Atkins in Legion: “Another source of conviction in the existence of God, connected with the reason and not with feelings, is the extreme difficulty or rather impossibility of conceiving this immense and wonderful universe as the result of blind chance or necessity.”)

Visions – An essay by Carl Jung mentioned in Legion, describing his brush with death.

If you have any other texts you can recommend that I should track down, please let me know.

    *** New Additions:

    Breakthrough by Konstantin Raudive

    Tibetan Book of the Dead

Colin Smythe [Wrote the preface to Breakthrough]

The Phenomenon of Man by Teilhard De Chardin

It’s easier if your head is 180 degrees to the left…
