Sofia
ParticipantI WISH they release the remaining deleted footage!

ParticipantDitto, Sofia. I’d even like the D.C. stuff even though the sound is missing … they can certainly added more music (like Lilo’s stuff that was thrown out!). If we had all the intended Blatty/Friedkin scenes, I’m sure it would help with some perspectives; i.e., building Regan’s character up a little more prior to the possession. But, alas, WB made them cut it down to two hours for the original and only added back about 12 minutes for TVYNS.

ParticipantThey need to throw in anything and everything they can dig up. Although I’m certain this will just be another bare-bones TVYNS release.

Participant1) A mini documentary entitled “Exorcist II: A Public Apology”.
2) A mini documentary entitled “Legion: A Public Apology to Mr. Blatty and the Fans for losing All the Footage from the Original Cut”.
3) A mini documentary entitled “Exorcist:The Remake: A Public Apology to Mr. Blatty, Mr Freidken and the all Fans for even considering to Remake/Re-Imagine a classic to cater to a more Disrespecting Younger Generation of Moviegoers who lack the ability to grasp the concept of any Classic Horror because they are Too Pig-headed to Appreciated anything that was made more than than 5 years ago and who Lacks the Attention Span unless There’s massive Gore and Pedaphile Priests and unlikable Angsty Disfunctional Characters”.
4) The deleted Chris and Reagan touring Washington DC scenes.
5) Any additional Karras, Dyer and Kinderman interaction scenes that establishes their early early friendship.
6) Menu option that allows viewers to choose which version to watch, the original or TVYNS.

ParticipantWell said, RB!
August 26, 2008 at 11:59 PM #20852RatBoy
ParticipantThank you FB.
Do you think the title of the third documentary on my wish list is too long?
August 26, 2008 at 11:59 PM #20853fatherbowdern
ParticipantNo way RB, you’re on target as far I’m concerned. In face, you I and have agreed on this point a lot. I think in an earlier post I mentioned seeing 18-20 y-o’s coming out the theater after seeing TVNS and making nasty comments about The Exorcist: TVYNS. Granted, I am assuming these folks were seeing The Exorcist for the first time whether it be the original or the TVYNS.
On the original WB website, I was a beta blogger for them and was excited about seeing updated version of The Exorcist that included the infamous Spider Walk. And, then, I saw what someone or some folks at WB did to the original with all the CGI garbage; e.g., overlaying Captain Howdy’s face on Regan’s face during the hypnosis scene; putting CH’s face on the vent over the stove; imposing yet another image of Pazuzu’s image on Regan’s bedroom wall). All, totally unnecessary! I entitled my blog entry as, “Disfiguring the Mona Lisa of Horror Films.” I was, needless to say, banned from the site using my blog name. Granted I could have went back on as another user, but I thought, “Why?” They’re making money and who am I to really judge that harshly. But, I was so unhappy that WB felt CGI was needed to make this great film “tech savvy” that it was a sorry excuse for an kind of updating. Put the 12 missing minutes back in and leave it at that.
So, yes! You’re third documentary title covers just everything that I would like to see it titled as well! 😉 Great points all around!

ParticipantI just hope this will be a great transfer. I have been let down by some transfers for classic movies like Clockwork Orange & Rocky, but there have also been some beautiful transfers like The Shining, 2001 & Blade Runner.

ParticipantHere’s mine:
A stellar visual and auditory transfer, which I know is possible because the film looked glorious for the TVYNS release. A crappy transfer WILL be WB’s fault and I will PROTEST THIS!
The original version and TVYNS in the same package.
The “Fear of God” documentary in 1080p.
Deleted scenes in 1080p if possible. Branching would be nice as well.
UNLIKELY WISH
TWO NEW COMMENTARIES
-William Friedkin and William Peter Blatty (recorded together)
-Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn and Max von Sydow (recorded together)
That would be all I need; that last commentary could be a great one!
August 27, 2008 at 11:59 PM #20866fatherbowdern
ParticipantMuddy, I would like to hear both Blatty and Friedkin commenting on various scenes together, too. The commentary on the 25th by Friedkin was just revolting … he only (and many times very wrongly) rehashed the scenes like he was seeing them for the first time ever. I didn’t learn anything new from Friedkin and I could have commented better and gave more background information than he did. So, let’s vote for a Blatty/Friedkin duo or just leave Friedkin out altogether.
August 28, 2008 at 11:59 PM #20870muddycrutchboy
ParticipantI, personally, am not a huge fan of Friedkin’s voice and style of speaking. But I think he and Blatty together (and I’m amazed the latter is still alive and visible at his age) would be interesting if they prepared themselves properly.
I also think that getting the three living stars back together for a commentary would be fun for fans, especially since Max von Sydow doesn’t get a lot of credit for this film, even though his character is one of the most memorable.

KeymasterWith regard to this post announcing a BluRay disc of The Exorcist is on the way, what are some things you wish or hope Warner Brothers might consider doing with this 35th Anniversary release?
I personally just hope it isn’t another TVYNS/25th Anniversary re-hash.
August 29, 2008 at 11:59 PM #20871fatherbowdern
ParticipantMuddy, I agree about Friedkin’s voice and mannerisms that he displays as the “almighty authority” on everything talking point. He’s somewhat demeaning to others if you listen carefully to his evaluations and critiques. Friedkin needs to say behind the camera! 😉
I would love to see and hear Burstyn (she has a wonderfully talented voice to go along with her acting skills). Blair could add more “adventures in torturing” in having to act out the devil’s deeds and weathering the makeup cruelty. von Sydow would be too perfect to hear from. I think their dialogue would be fascinating WITHOUT Friedkin butting in.
