ParticipantI’m sure others have noticed this, but…
Just before the bed shaking scene, when Chris says to Regan “it’s nerves and that’s all, just take your pills…” Linda’s arm position changes from one shot to the next.During the initial exorcism sequence, Regan has what appears to be a blue splint under her left arm. It’s gone when she later rips through her restraining wrist straps and levitates.
(Sorry, no screencaps to back them up)

ParticipantCeru, yeah! Good catches! I’ll check for the “moving arm” part. I did do a post on here with screen captures, but I can’t remember what we were talking about at the time.

ParticipantHey, father…
(could ya help an old altar boy?? No no, I’m kidding, thankfully.)Pop quiz for you, sir. We all know the Tubular Bells piano intro, and where it is in the film: Chris’ stroll down the street, Regan ranting at the doctors at the Barringer clinic, the end scene, the end credits.
But where in the film is Tubular Bells playing, only *not* the piano intro? there’s one scene in particular.

ParticipantCeru,
Are we talking the original or TVNS?

ParticipantBoth versions, actually. It’s playing in the background during the scene in particular.
Clue: if you own Tubular Bells on CD or mp3, skip ahead to 15 minutes and 32 seconds into Part One.

ParticipantCeru,
I like these pop quizzes … so I’m taking a guess at Oldfield’s classic at the time you point out above. (This may depend on which Oldfield version we’re talking about – the original 1973 or a more updated revision. So, is it the music playing on the radio when Karras leaves his mother’s apartment in NYC?

ParticipantNope, not that scene. You’ll hear the music during the spoken line: “Stealing is a sin.”

ParticipantYeah, I noticed it some time ago. The music coming from the room next to Karras’ is also an excerpt from Tubular Bells. And, by the way, it’s because of that scene that I occasionnaly drink Chivas Regal.

ParticipantVery nice, Ceru! I have the picture above in the “smoking/not smoking/smoking” scene with Karras and Father Dyer. Now I can look forward to hearing that music, too.
Thanks!

ParticipantHaven’t seen this posted in here yet:

Hopefully they’ve fixed stuff like this in the Blu-ray release. It can’t be too hard…

There is so much more going on in that scene than a second cigarette… that’s why I have never noticed it all these years. It is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.
Mine too. A beautiful scene between my fave 2 actors in the film. I also agree that it is just a continuity mistake with the cigarette. The dialogue flows so well that there is no way that a few seconds and Karras offering another one would work.
I dont notice any other bloops in the film apart from the fact that from the outside of the house Regans window is not where it should be from the inside of the house. As you go up the stairs the hall doubles back on the stairs and there are windows along the hall. Regans bedroom windows are also on that wall. But when you see it from the outside there are only her bedroom windows and then the main part of the house juts out and there are not windows. Also when she threw Burke out of the window he would have just landed in the drive rather than down the stairs. The same would be for Karras. It would be impossible for him to fall down the stairs.

ParticipantOh, no, Regan’s window again! 😉
I still say we need the actual blueprints because the window thing that Jenny mentions is still up for fodder although I, along with others, have posted enough pics on here to show that it could not be feasible for an individual to jump down onto the Hitchcock steps from that window.
The scene with the cigarette blooper was a continuity issue and/or a filming of the scene several times and cutting the scene back into something better than any of the originals. Looping was more than likely used in post, especially considering it was an outdoor scene in a park with lots of noise.
It’s just like any other scene that’s pointed out. For instance, notice the glasses on tables in certain scenes of movies/television … once full, now half-empty, now fully, empty, half-full.
It’s a blooper. 🙂
