ParticipantYes, that teaser is incredibly dumb. I like the “subliminal” shots, but that really doesn’t make it any better. John Boorman had some pretty f*cking weird ideas for this film. The pretentiousness of it is also staggering.

ParticipantThe moment I realized James Earl Jones was in The Heretic, all attempts at taking the movie seriously died horrible, painful deaths.
I wish I could take a clip of the line “If Pazuzu comes for you, I will spit a leopard!” and repeat it over the music track of the second trailer that RatBoy linked to above.

Participanti Saw the teaser trailer of “Exorcist II-The Heretic”,Linda Blair is too cute!
doesn’t exist a teaser trailer of “The Exorcist”(1)?September 3, 2008 at 11:59 PM #20907fatherbowdern
ParticipantI agree with Justin on Blair doing the possessed part. But, I remember reading that Blair got a little heady and refused to sit in the makeup chair and be tortured with the hours of having to sit still for so long. (I would have done if I was her considering The Exorcist is her only claim to real fame – and that’s really unfortunate because she was a talented actress in her youth).

ParticipantWhat ya think?

ParticipantLinda is still a talented actress. She just hasn’t really had a chance to do much of anything high quality anymore. Even if you watch one of her later films, her performance is still pretty decent despite the film’s subpar screenplay and even subpar fellow actors and direction.
AND WOW, haven’t been on this forum in a while!

ParticipantWelcome Back, Greg! 🙂
I agree about Linda (like Sweet Hostage). Hindsight is 20/20 for everyone, of course.
However, I do think Linda fell prey to the “child actor syndrome” of being known for one thing like The Exorcist and Hollywood steered clear of her after her tremendous performance because she became “box-office poison” even without giving her chance to prove she could act in other theatrical releases (but parts are very limited for young performers).
Although she was nominated for an Academy Award and lost to Tatum O’Neal in Paper Moon (Tatum gave a great performance, too), I still believe politics played an important role in giving the Oscar to Tatum over Linda. I do mean Hollywood politics played a part because the power-players (being, oh about 98% men), couldn’t stand the idea of awarding Linda for “saying” such foul language. I think it’s the, “What would people say if we gave her that award for shoving a crucifix in her crotch?”
I just wish Linda would have had the opportunity to break free of Regan. I know that Ellen Burstyn had made a comment that Linda couldn’t act all (I read that here somewhere), but Ellen broke free a year later and won an Oscar for her performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore. Again, I think the Academy overlooked Ellen’s nominated performance in The Exorcist and gave her the award the following year for a much “sweeter” film. I absolutely admire Ellen and think she can do anything on screen. I don’t think the Academy is fair at all because her performance in Requiem for a Dream definitely should have won over the performance of Julia’s Roberts in Erin Brockovich (which I enjoy as well, but it sure as hell wasn’t as good as Ellen’s when you compare apples to apples). 🙂
