I recently wrote to Blatty and in my letter I asked him about those two mysteriously missing “funny noises” scenes. I received a reply this week and while his answer was very vague, he did confirm to me that they were present in Friedkin's first cut of the film. Sadly, he didn't answer why they were cut or why they were never restored for TVYNS.

But that means the footage is definitely out there somewhere and hopefully one day we will get to see it. 40th anniversary Blu-ray special features, anyone? I'm sure we could make it happen if we get the attention of WB through this website.

Count me in as supporter for including all the missing media … all of it. True fans could care less about quality in both terms of film or sound. WE are the ones that care and there are a lot of us from several different generations.

Count me in too. I would just love to see all the missing footage, together, on one dvd/blu-ray. Laughing

“Sadly, he didn't answer why they were cut…”

But we already know why they were cut, Justy. John Calley suggested they were cut and Friedkin ended up agreeing with him.

Well no, Sofi, that's the what influenced Friedkin to go back and shorten the film, but not the reason why he specifically took out these scenes.

Justin, I agree. Many components were cut because of the film's length. Films over two hours were very uncommon in the 70's. WB cared about the quick turnover of audiences just as much as theaters.

Alot more of the footage would proabaly be in the movie if it would have been done in today's filming.

The two scenes from a December 1972 draft of the screenplay: Scene 1, Scene 2.

John Calley said he felt those scenes were too repetitive and then Friedkin agreed! That's the reason he gave for cutting out those scenes.

Sof, I will bet you have an article or clipping on the John Calley/Friedkin issue. Can you share it here?
