ParticipantNo, but its mentioned in the book “The Devil Came to St.Louis”. Working with the Jesuits she may have had more information but Jennifer says that she will not discuss it.

ParticipantI think the reason for the sort of vow of silence was to protect Ronald from a life of being hounded by people. We see how celebrities are treated by the media and fighting with photographers etc. I admire everyone involved in this case. A good number of family, friends, and the clergy involved including Ronald himself could have made a fortune telling all they know. No one has really done this. The clergy and the Catholic church in general saved Ronalds life and have not wanted to cash in on it or even talk about it.
Conspiracy? Yes, and a good one.August 3, 2009 at 11:59 PM #21965Witch of Endor
ParticipantYou mean to protect him from being hounded by us?
August 3, 2009 at 11:59 PM #21966Daithi
ParticipantPerhaps that too. I only became interested in this a few weeks ago and read the book “The Devil Came to St.Louis”. It was only then that I found out that I knew where the house was and that I lived close to it and had been there while reading electric meters. In the book I saw that I knew the sister of a guy that had lived there and then talking to a friend found out that her Grandmother had worked at the White House Retreat Center. A great number of things came together for me at one time. After finding this Forum I see what his real name is and his high school yearbook photo.
I would guess that because his real name and location is now known he has been hounded by people as it is. Its a good thing he was able to grow up without this public knowledge until later in life. I remain amazed that no one ratted the kid out for money or that those who knew him did not sell out.August 5, 2009 at 11:59 PM #21969fatherbowdern
ParticipantHmmm … or perhaps the Catholic church keeps things “shrouded” in mystery a little too much? Not really.
If Ronald Hunkeler wanted to come forward soon after the possession, he was under the scrutiny of his parents who made the right choices for their child.
If Hunkeler wanted to come forward when The Exorcist was released, perhaps he chose not to be in the public eye and chose his career at NASA as more important (albeit this “true story” has been on the table for discussion for many years about what a pubescent child can do for attention).
If he came forward today, I don’t feel he would have a much of a story. The book and movie of the “true story” have already been made.
He’s just not a cash cow, unless he releases a blow-by-blow detail that rivals the diary of Bowdern/Halloran.

ParticipantWhere can one find the Bowdern/Halloran diary? It it in any of the books? I have only read one, The Devil Came to St.Louis, and its only mentioned in there with a few excepts.

ParticipantHi Daithi,
Yes. The full diary is located online and I have lost my bookmark. I do believe there is a blog posting somewhere on this site regarding the diary.
If you want further reading material, you may want to purchase Thomas B. Allen’s book Possessed. The diary is now included in the newer reprints, so check for this before you order here. I am not sure, but Captain Howdy could have a link to that particular book through Amazon on here. Therefore, I would suggest ordering the book through here to support this site.

ParticipantIs this THE house? I can’t get a handle on this.
I read the wonderful strange magazine article, but don’t remember this address being mentioned.
I believe it said that this was the location:
3807 40th Avenue, Cottage City, Maryland
I know the Bunker Hill address was a total fabrication.
Can someone tell me where 8435 Roanoke Drive fits into the real Exorcist case?

ParticipantAn interesting development. I drove past the house today and I noticed that the address numbers on the house have been removed. Why now?

ParticipantA friend drove past the house and said that the address numbers are still not on the house. Perhaps too many tourists?
April 9, 2010 at 4:06 AM #22677fatherbowdern
ParticipantMore than likely. The house filmed in The Exorcist is a true tourist trap … so much so that the owners put up that ugly black fence that surrounds it. A demon and then a black fence … there goes the neighborhood.

ParticipantI was born in Jefferson City,Mo and lived in St.Louis until 1974 when my Mum moved us to Oakland,California where I am still living. The house in the Bel-Nor District in St.Louis was up for sale in 2005 and my mom and I drove by to see it. We didn’t go in but we drove by because the house was up for sale because the previous owner had “disappeared”. I am thinking of moving to St.Louis to this retirement community that is across the street from St.Louis University the place also where the 1949 exorcism of Robbie took place.
