“And Action…CHRIS!”

    I've looked, but didn't see…

    Just wondered if anyone noticed (in the original version Blu ray) you don't hear anyone call, “…and, action…CHRIS!” when Ellen Burstyn's character starts to rush the school to grab the megaphone.  It's there in the Extended Cut dvd.  Wonder why they left it out?  I've seen the extended so many times, I noticed right away it was missing.

    This got me curious so I just checked my Blu-ray and I definitely hear “…aaaand, action Chris!” right before Ellen pushes up to the megaphone.

    Perhaps it has something to do with your sound system configuration? It is a 'background sound' so maybe one of your channels isn't working or something? Then again, many other audio bits would be missing throughout the film if this were the case.

    Thanks for the post, Captain Howdy!  Ok, so get this:

    I got curious after your post, myself, and just put the Extended Cut dvd to the side and compared the 2 Blu rays (from the Blu ray book that came out in 2010 with the two discs).  In the Extended Cut BLU RAY, it sounds exactly like the Extended Cut dvd…very pronounced “Hustle background” and “Action, CHRIS!”

    I then put in the Theatrical Version Blu ray, and “Hustle backgroud” is more muted (but at least it's there), but “Action, CHRIS!” is not there AT ALL…with the sound all the way up!

    Very strange.

    I would check this out myself but my Blu-ray player is bust. Can anyone else verify?

    “Action, CHRIS!” isn't in my Theatrical version Blu-ray either. :/

    Thanks for confirming, Sofia. This is very interesting.

    I wonder what the reasoning is behind its removal? Maybe it was an accident in the Blu-ray mixdown?

    OK, out of curiosity, since my Blu-ray player is busted, I popped in the 1999 “Special Edition” DVD, which is the original theatrical cut… there's no “Action CHRIS!”.

    Put in the first release of “The Version You've Never Seen” (now known as “Extended Director's Cut”) and it's there! I'm thinking ACTION CHRIS was an addition to TVYNS and was never used in the original theatrical release. So it was never 'removed', it has never been there.

    The 25 anniversary does not have that line right? That is the 1999 version or no?

    The 25th Anniversary does not have the line.  The Version You've Never Seen/The Extended Director's Cut does.
