After a lengthy talk with good friend and director of the film, The Exorcist, Billy Friedkin candidly remarked about his two brief cameos in his top-reigning horror movie. While Friedkin is somewhat easily discernable as an onlooker during the filming of the faux movie “Crash Course”, his most cleverly subdued appearance is that of the cab driver in the film’s most iconic scene in which Father Merrin arrives at the MacNeil home.

Friedkin remarked, “As you know, I’m a very egoless and modest person. However, I felt a true compulsion somewhere deep within me to be a part of the very celluloid of what turned out to be such a timeless and classic film. You could say the, ‘The devil make me do it,’ but it was much more in my mind’s eye to be a part of this unbeknownst historical film.”

Aha…..I knew it!  I was right all along.  It looks like Billy when he turns his head in the cab……something I've noticed for years.  Thanks.

Blatty or Friedkin? The title says Friedkin but the content says Blatty.

I'm confused about that too. 😉

Should read “Friedkin,” not “Blatty.” Had my mind elsewhere when typing … thanks for pointing out my typo.

But you do see Blatty in the faux filming scene.

Indeed, Blatty and Friedkin are both in the faux filming scene. Blatty with a speaking part; Friedkin with a non-descript spectator speaking part.

I went looking for Friedkin's cameo but couldn't find it, instead I found Owen Roizman in a cameo! he stands next to Blatty as they talk to Burke Denning. Does anyone know exactly which part in the faux filming scene Friedkin makes a cameo?? thanks

Heck, I was guessing the bum, or one of the ex post facto ghosts.

I just slow motioned the scene looking for Friedkin, but could not find him. It's like “Where's Waldo.” Someone should screencap it and circle him.

I did see a guy in purple jeans. 😀

I think the assistant makeup artist (Rick Baker?) makes one too in that scene.. Not 100% though.
