Father Damien Karras's mother; yet another mental illusions and last ditch effort to get Karras out of the bedroom to face his true rival, Father Merrin.
Father Bowdern
The illusion continues moments later in that scene, as Father Karras checks Regan's condition with a stethoscope, she begins to speak to him using his Mother's voice. Why you do dis to me, Dimmy? Why?
I should have added that when you see Karras's mother on the bed, the newer version has sound clip playing in the background of the mental institution patients … the same place his uncle put her in because “Dimmy” was not there to “save her.”
Father Bowdern
It might interest you guys to know that when Damien's mother is looking at him (actually, looking directly in the camera, as if we here him), she's looking to the left of the bed. The entrance to Regan's bedroom is to the right of the bed.

This is a small blunder that I've found very difficult to overlook once I noticed it.
