The Exorcist is compelling viewing which does not require an “obsession” to spawn interest. Ditto “the series”. So why should anyone care if it annoys this person? The poster/complainer seems to want to say something but has little to communicate.

In any case, “William Bowden The Real Exorcist” is not recognizable in/as Blatty’s priestly characters, except for the fact that all concerned _are_ priests, so it’s a bit too cute to advertise Bowden as a member of the complainer’s family. It’s as if the poster is saying, “Hey, the Exorcist priest is based on my relative! And by the way… the whole series draws obsessives, which really irritates me.”

Instead of saying something interesting about Bowden – if in fact the poster really has anything to say – s/he attacks certain people whom s/he thinks are obsessed with the Exorcist series. This ploy is rather lacking in substance, to say the least.

If I could have put it any more perfectly, granville, I would have said you took the words right out of my mouth. I nodded along with every single word.

Personally, I am ambivalent toward the Exorcist series. I am related to Father WIlliam Bowdern (the real Exorcist that the book and film were based on) and while I enjoy the kitsch factor of having a horror story about a member of my family, I am also annoyed at the people that make the film series an obsession.

The odds there is any truth to that post is pretty doubtful anyway. And I am related to the guy that inspired Freedy Krueger. How crazy is that?

    O.K. not really……

Well, sometimes I get it right… interesting to be reminded that “it takes all types”, including those – like the complainer – who will to align themselves with the Exorcist, only to diss it. And as etrigan says, maybe the poster’s claim to be related to Bowden is bogus…

“We’re all part of The Angel…” To most likely miss quote Bill Blatty.

Yeah… the Angel also happens to be another loss from the Legion movie… would have been nice to see the idea mentioned.
