ParticipantWhat a good idea! Funny thing I noticed; Poe inspired Lovecraft. Lovecraft inspired Robert Bloch. Robert Bloch inspired Blatty. “I remember very distinctly reading a funny ghost or terror story in Unknown by Robert Bloch. He started me on my writing career. I just fell apart with laughter, and I would call my friends and read the entire story to them. And I caught fire. I wanted to write something like that. And I started trying comedy, because it was the laughs that got me.” Anyway, Breakthrough by Konstantin Raudive.

ParticipantNice!
Where has Breakthrough been mentioned/referenced, specifically?

ParticipantLegion. Dr. Amfortas’ letter to Dyer 😉 Also mention of Colin Smythe, author of the introduction. Amfortas (as far as I remember) didn’t like Breakthrough, but liked Smythe.

ParticipantIntroduction, as in introduction to Legion…? Or am I missing something?
I only currently have the re-released paperback copy of the book with The Exorcist III poster on the cover.

ParticipantClever play on Lazarus, methinks… I wish I had thought of it! as to any other reference, I’m blank.

ParticipantAny idea why her name was Lazlo in the novel?

ParticipantBad memory re: Clelia: actually, Jung may have cited her name from his study of the paranormal rather than participating directly in a seance.

ParticipantMiss Clelia in the film is from Jung – “Clelia” was one of the dissociated personalities or “spirits” Jung encountered in a seance. Also the patient in the novel who goes thru shoe-making motions was a patient of Jung. Like Temple, Jung figured out what the motions meant. I think both are found in Jung’s “Memories, Dreams, and Reflections”, but I can’t swear to it.

ParticipantI edited the initial post with these:
– Breakthrough by Konstantin Raudieve Latvian
– Tibetan Book of the Dead
– Colin Smythe [Wrote the preface to Breakthrough]
– The Phenomenon of Man by Teilhard De Chardin
Is there anything else I’m missing mentioned by Kinderman that is relevant?
