Excellent catch, Padre. Unfortunately, I don’t know where it would fit in the movie. Much depends, of course, on who the corpse is (was). Looks like he’s wearing a sweater. That potentially disqualifies Fr. Carnoven (sp? the confessional priest killed by the Gemini) and Fr. Dyer, because Carnoven was killed wearing his clerical garb, and Dyer was killed wearing a hospital smock. Of course, Carnoven could have been wearing a sweater under his confessional robes which, blood-soaked, could have been removed and turned over to the police as evidence

But one character who _does_ wear a sweater is not in Legion, but in the original Exorcist – that would be Fr. Karras (Merrin, too) – because Regan’s room was so cold.

Could this be a photo from the actual night of the exorcism with Karras on the coroner’s table before being remanded to poor Brother Fain for final preparation?
Maybe Blatty would have wanted to start Legion very definitely on the night of the exorcism but later fell back on the highly symbolic opening shots that were finally filmed?

The body on the table seems a bit old – from the little that can be seen (the hair that I can see looks whitish – but that could be glare?) – to really be Karras. But the “cording” in the sweater looks like the kind of sweater Karras was wearing at the MacNeil house.

If Karras’ cassock had been removed but not the sweater, it could conceivably be him on the table.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

You didn’t copy the whole link, Mike. 😛

And yes it is Karras. Must be from a deleted scene.

Glad you think so – I can’t think of who else it would be. What an potentially interesting film the complete Legion would have been…

Actually, this is for another thread but if WPB doesn’t do another Exorcist novel, it would be nice if he would do a book on the making of Legion, complete with photos of production, deleted scenes, etc. Tell his side of the story and share all the gossip – and fill us in about all the Legion puzzles and mysteries.

You are right, Justy. 😛 Incidentally, THANKS! Great pic. Maybe more will spring up with…!

That critical essays book for which EKM, others, and myself are putting together with Ben S. at the helm as Editor — due out in early ’08!

EKM is doing a “tell-all” interview with Mr. Blatty concerning the film and novel, from what I understand, so stay tuned. I am really, really looking forward to this. What an honor to be a part of this book.null

    The tell-all interview sounds intriguing.

This picture is indeed from a deleted scene, and indeed it is Karras. It is not, however, supposed to be taking place the night of Regan’s exorcism.

This scene shows Karras after he wandered anonymously around until picked up and taken to the hospital, where we see an examination taking place. The doctors are most likely discussing his odd brain-wave patterns and seemingly catatonic state….before he starts “waking up”.

Good scene to leave on the cutting room floor, as it isnt really necessary to tell the story.

Interesting solution – thanks. Karras would have been “wandering the C&O Canal” still wearing the black slacks and dark blue sweater he had been wearing during the exorcism – when he was discovered _after_ the night of the exorcism.

If you go to the behind the scenes pic gallery of Exorcist III, there is what appears to be 3 scans of pages from a program. On the second page, the second pic down, two men are looking at a body. When did that scene take place in the movie? I’ve never seen it.
