KeymasterThe only explination I can give is that Morgan Creek had no clue what the fuck they were doing during their ‘let’s make a prequel’ phase. Any in-depth cross-examination is in vain because there is NO WAY they thought that far ahead.
They just wanted a movie in theatres with EXORCIST in the title so they could bring in the money.
…and it did. Sadly.

ParticipantAfter seeing both Dominion and The Begining, I can’t help but feel that it was intended to be a set up for a new series of films involving the younger Father Merrin and his battles with Pazuzu.
In the scene during the original Exorcist while the priests were discussing the Merrin’s previous exorcism, their were two things that stuck out that were very inconsistant with the prequel storyline.
1)They said that his last Exorsism was 12 years ago which would set that encounter sometime in the early 60s (not the late 40s like it was in both Dominion and The Begining).
2)Also they stated that the exorcism almost killed him.
That wasn’t the case in either The Begining or Dominion.
If anything, his first encounter with Pazuzu gave him strenght and renewed his faith.
I’m thinking that if either Dominion or The Begining were box office hits, there would have been a sequel prequel would have followed.

ParticipantNot that much money fortunately. I think we’ve got all we wanted on Exorcist and then some (which we actually didn’t want). 🙁

ParticipantIf well crafted, I could go for another sequel or prequel.

ParticipantMorgan Creek will probably throw another one out in the next few years. They have to recoup their losses from the two turkey versions they created.

ParticipantI never an understand the logic to prequels or sequels. What will be next a filmed called Pazuzu? lol

ParticipantBlatty could do another novel. Lt. Kinderman is involved with the demonic in Georgetown. Only it's his daughter, Julie, who gave up ballet to follow in her father's footsteps to become a police detective. I think a female Lt. Kinderman would be a kick, and it would be cute to see some of Dad's ideas and mannerisms cropping up in Ms. Kinderman 🙂

Supposedly it was The Exorcist's demon in local (African) imagery. It has a more “African” than “Middle Eastern” look because of the differences between the two cultures attempting to represent it.

ParticipantYeah, though more “authentic” than The Beginning's full-on Pazuzu, Dominion's version was not as visually impressive.
