And another…When I bought these original stills off Ebay the seller told me that they were from a rehearsal. So, it could only be for the 'funny noises' cut scene. She's looking up at the ceiling in both stills.

Yeah, that has made me cry now.
Please, Blatty & Friedkin: make The Exorcist novel miniseries before you both pass away…Â

I often wondered when Regan found the time to make plaster phallases and type up filthy abominations on Sharon's typewriter without being seen.
Yeah, he let Dennings case stay an accident!
Â
Regan could have easily sneaked out of the house through the basement door – Remember, she spent most of her time down there, by herself – and Sharon kept her typewriter there for weeks, as well.Â

(I will say though, the Regan and Chris play-wrestling scene verges on saccharine!)
That scene presages what's going to come later , when they have another physical altercation (the original ending of the spiderwalk, and the crucifix scene) while Chris tries to take the crucifix off Regan's hands she's shouting the same things: “Give it, give it to ME!!”
Friedkin talked about this on the VYNS commentary.

I understand what you mean … Maybe Friedkin wanted to make the
contrast between the possessed Regan even stronger, making the “real” Regan extremely sweet …
Author Bill Johnson shares my opinion about Regan of the novel 🙂
“If Regan is very shy and diffident, it will make what's going to follow all the more dramatic and shocking. “

ParticipantEllen…Burstyn is…your…aunt? The Ellen Burstyn??

ParticipantCarla, one of the things I love about The Exorcist novel is the mystery of whether or not Regan is possessed. You can interpret it in any way you like; was it autosuggestion brought on by Regan's reading a book on witchcraft? Is it a case of psychosis caused by the divorce? etc, etc..Â
In the movie, though, is just so hard to believe she's not possessed, I wonder how you can. 😉 If you haven't read the novel, you should. 🙂

Participant“ In Raising Hell: Filming the Exorcist there are a few extra minimal scenes not shown in the theaters. “
Â
Is it the 'funny noises' sequence and the original scene before Chris investigates the attic??
