I must say that I literally cried before starting to watch 'The Trip to Washington', after waiting 10 years for this. Only now, I feel disappointed by Linda and Ellen's acting at the end of the scene (when they talk about death). That was such a serious, touching moment in the novel, and I was expecting it to be exactly like it: Regan is solemn and sad and has her eyes misted with tears when she asks her mother 'why do people have to die? and 'why does God let them'. But, Linda and Ellen are actually giggling while talking about it…
I understand what you mean … Maybe Friedkin wanted to make the
contrast between the possessed Regan even stronger, making the “real” Regan extremely sweet …Six months for few seconds …congratulations … LOL I wonder if Linda ever complained about it … I mean, it is an old story, but Dietz is still stealing her merit for playing the possessed Regan.
We can clearly see when Dietz was used as a double, and this is just in the scenes reported above. Her face was totally different than Linda’s and there is no way to supect she could be in other parts of the movie.
Maybe she can keep saying she did the whole thing, but the film speaks more truly than she does.
I hate they didn’t take out the few seconds with Eileen during the vomiting scene… it destroys the credibility of it because you can clearly see it’s not Linda!
This movie is so bad and awful that I still feel very generous when I say that it is totally crap! One of the worst movies I have seen in 44 years.
