ParticipantWow, from what little is on view, it is indeed highly suggestive of Karl. We are so used to seeing the crucifix abuse scene as a duel limited to two contestants, Regan-demon and Chris … maybe it was originally shot with Karl but was dropped because Friedkin thought the narrow “duel” focus was more cinematically effective. Also, when people rush the room to help, just before the demon blocks the bedroom door with the large dresser, iirc, it’s only Chris and Sharon shown rushing down the hall to Regan’s door …. no Karl! Maybe that’s because it’s really him on the floor. Worth pondering, for sure.

ParticipantThanks for posting that – yeah, Dick Smith was something of a predictive genius in “shaping Max’s future face”…!

ParticipantIf the OP wants ONLY the words used in the film, he might try Blatty’s “William Peter Blatty on The Exorcist: From Novel to Film”, Bantam Books –

ParticipantAt first I thought it was a sudden draft or an air pocket in the wax. But others have suggested that it was the demon. Now I think it might be, if not the demon, at least demonic influence. After all, Chris is only in the attic because that's the location from which poltergeist-like scratchings have been emanating. Just another of the demon's nasty surprises (this scene does not happen in the book).

ParticipantYes, it was clearly Regan in the early stage of her possession. In the novel, she also leaves an obscene altar card typed in Latin from Sharon's typewriter.

ParticipantNew problem: posting pages are unreadable. Clicking on a particular thread displays the poster's avatar on a huge blue field, with the post text itself shoved off the screen in a right-hand direction.
