We can't actually say much more about this project, other than the current version we have is some of the most compelling 250 pages of screenplay we've ever read and we've read a lot of screenplays!
Why can't we say more? Because the broadcast deal isn't announced yet and it's going to be MAJOR NEWS when it hits. This signed Limited Edition alone should make the Book Club worth it for most of our collectors!

ParticipantI have to say, I’m kind of excited about this. I love the book, and would really like to see a version that would be able to explore the book more fully without time constraints. Also, this does open the door for a Legion mini series that more closely follows the book, and would require recasting of Kinderman like the move did.

ParticipantSo, the TV series will star Miley Cyrus as Regan Macneil!

I felt the film pretty much followed the book perfectly. I am not sure how to expand it without adding extraneous material that is not in Blatty's original story.

ParticipantI don't think a mini-series would have anything “extraneous.” Blatty wrote very intense conversations between Karras and the demon not to mention the intriguing plots involving Mary Jo as well as Karl's and Willie's daughter, Elvira.
If given the right amount of time and money, The Exorcist mini-series could easily compete for a place alongside one of Stephen King's made-for-television movies that have always been successful.

ParticipantSo, Miley is going to have a brown haired wig with bangs, that she will play Regan MacNeil in the series.

ParticipantIf the series is yes i hope it shows parts from the book. Ex Regan was spinning like a top. 🙂

I was disappointed that Elvira was omitted. The importance of that story was to show that every character in the book was flawed and struggling with their own personal demons. It allowed the reader to connect with the characters of Karl and Willie. The film version made them basically throw away characters. It stripped the maternal and paternal instincts of the characters, and removed their reason for sticking around when most people would have said “screw this!”
So I can understand wanting that storyline included. But there would still need to be a lot of padding. I know that Blatty is heavily involved with the proposed miniseries, but I just fear that any additions to the story to stretch the run time may dilute what makes the story so captivating. I just don't want them (execs) to try to re-invent the wheel.

Maybe I missed something, but where in the name of all things Holy, did we see anything that says Miley Cyrus will be Regan MacNeil? The day this happens is the day I take my tv outside and shoot it.

ParticipantLOL Dave. I think (at least I hope) oachi is just casting in their own mind. Although, Miley could certainly play the possessed Regan easily as long as twerking is involved!
Yes. I would love to see an in-depth mini-series that includes all these subplots. I recall that Friedkin told Blatty that he hated his original script which was very, very close to the novel and asked him for a re-write. It could be reversed this time around if the execs were not involved at all in the mini-series like they were in the 70's with the original film which ultimately led to a lot of the editing to keep the chairs full every two hours in the theaters.

Opposite way round I think chap
Friedkin hated the original script because it was so different from the novel. Jumbing back and forth in time and messing with the novel’s structure. He took a copy of the novel, marked up the filmable bits and had a script worked up by Blatty from that.
Anything excised was done just for timing issues and to preserve suspense. As you say, with a mini series we can hopefully get all the subplots back in as timing would be less of an issue and suspense would only be necessary between episodes.November 26, 2014 at 3:34 AM #41887Ken
ParticipantI don’t know if this is a good idea. They did the “Rosemary’s Baby” mini-series last May, and I do not feel that it was on par with the Roman Polanski version.Same thing with the 2006 remake of “The Omen” and the 1998 remake of “Psycho”.It would be tremendous if they just leave “The Exorcist” alone.Unless of course, William Friedkin, or whoever it was who edited the film on it’s original release, could find the sound tapes for the whole Washington D.C. sight seeing trip on Regan’s birthday, and Regan’s preoccupation with death as she and Chris visit the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier.
The other issue that I have is I do not want to see Chris, Regan, Father Karras or Lt. Kinderman using smart phones.
