If Friedkin can put in the scene with Karras and Father Lucas, then I'll really be impressed!

    – It wasn't really that scary for me. Yeah, it was disgusting, just not *that* scary.

    – That's Max von Sydow? When was this movie made, 1973?? He's almost as old-looking now as he looked back then!

    – The girl's mom's outfits were really cute!

    – The way the Iraq desert matched Max's beautiful blue eyes (spoken by wife's friend).

    – I prefer the girl when she's possessed, she's kind of annoying when she's normal.

    – (seeing Fr Merrin slumped over on the bed) Wait, he's not dead. Is he??

    – The surround sound in the theatre was amazing. I could hear the bubbling of the girl's fishtank in one scene, and peoples voices all over the place when Karras' friend finds him at the bottom of the steps.

    – When Karras is laying on the bed in the dorm room, and he grabs his friend's arm. They weren't… gay, were they?

    – What'd he say? (at servant Karl's “It wants no straps” line)

    – Aw Jeeeezus! (seeing the shot of Regan's dazed face, right after Karras wipes the green vomit from his mouth)

    – So the second movie, is it any good?

Speaking of theatre amped-up sound, the pre-Blu-Ray screening had a particular moment: Regan's line to Karras “And I'm the devil!” was thunderous.  It actually had a low boom to it.  If anyone has a sound system with a subwoofer, check it out.

While I was in college, we held many house parties.  At one particular end-of-the-semester party/my birthday bash, circa 1996, I met a cute, long-haired brunette girl who introduced herself as Regan. My eyes widened, “Oh, like in that movie The Exorcist!” I bluntly said (I'd had a few drinks and my inhibitions were pretty much gone at that point).  She nodded and said “Yeah, like in the movie.”  She said her parents didn't name her after the character, can't recall what their actual reason was, though.  She, along with everyone else at the party that night, signed my birthday card!

If I can find the photo I took of her hanging out with her friends that night, I'll show it here 😉

I admire the continuity of The Exorcist III (with a few minor exceptions).

Especially the shot of Dyer looking down at the steps at the end of EI, then that shot replicated at the start of EIII.  Kinderman and Dyer's friendship established with the 'Wuthering Heights' exchange.  Then decades later, they're still going to the movies!

There's a ton of dark humor in the writing too: Q: “What is Rabies, and what can you do about it?” A: “Rabies are Jewish priests, and I'll do anything I can for them.” or the wacky grandmother's take on the possessed nurse: “So, is she staying for dinner or what?”

Sidenote: There is absolutely no mention in the movie (don't know about the novel) of Merrin.  None!  They did manage to sneak in a quick reference to “the MacNeil kid”, then you hear Regan's giggling in the background, the giggle just before Karras 'takes' the demon.

Well, I'm sure you'll all love this news:

Paranormal Activity 3 will be released later in 2011.  Most likely around the end of October.

The “Courage” part had me in tears laughing.  But the levitation scene was absolute genius!!

It pops up again in the movie.  As Karras says the line “stealing is a sin” to Fr. Dyer, you hear a guitar strumming part of Tubular Bells coming from another dorm room.

I actually saw this movie over the past weekend.

So it starts off with a young priest, he's got dark hair, he's very intense looking, and he has doubts about his faith, (he boxes in a gym in his spare time, by the way).  While trying to deal with disturbing recurring visions of his deceased mother, he takes part in the exorcism of an innocent brunette girl by an elderly, grey-haired highly experienced exorcist.  The exorcism takes place in a vacant bedroom.  The possessed girl contorts her body, speaks in a language she's never known or studied, makes sexual remarks towards the priests, and quotes a statement in the exact voice of someone the young priest had previously interacted with.

    Sound familiar?

YouTube is inaccessible for me at the moment, so later (if I dare)…

Try the Russian dubbed version.  It's one man, just reading out everyone's lines in monotone.

Wait, or was it the Polish version?  To the Blu-Ray player!

One thing I always wondered about the women in the psychiatric ward thats keeping Mother Karras…

I'm guessing the ones who physically interacted with Damien were actresses, while the others really were mentally handicapped.  Or maybe they were all actresses, or all genuine patients? (probably the latter, Friedkin had a habit of using non-actors). The one mouthing and drawing pictures on the bed with her finger is the most disturbing.

How did Friedkin get permission to film those women?  They obviously weren't of sound mind to sign release forms or whatnot.

I wonder if it's the original version from 1973, or TVYNS/TEDC? (apologies if it says in the article, that site is currently blocked for me!)

Same with another inductee, The Empire Strikes Back.  The 1980 version?  Or Lucas' Special Edition?
