Yeah, it was what it was. The audience I saw the movie with seemed to eat it up.
If anything, the first half of the movie, including the reverend showing his “tricks of the exorcism trade” was a real hoot.
Actually, the non-believing son was sometimes creepier than the possessed girl!

Well, I *used* to have the VHS copy in the cardboard slipcase that was widely available, before the 25th Anniversary plastic snap-case with the postcard-sized lobby cards came along.
I can’t remember if, before the movie, it had that old zooming Warner Communications logo, instead of the WB shield. But it did have a Warner Home Video animation with cheesy synth music!

The novel, I have my aunt’s old paperback, purple cover, with the banner “See The Movie, It’s The most Electrifying Thing That Will Happen To You!”
Honestly, I was kinda hoping she had the original 1971 hardcover with dustjacket, those suckers are rare!

That reminds me, the more recent novel reprint with the smudgy green cross design on the cover. There’s a girl’s face in the middle of the cross. Is that Linda’s face, or just a generic girl’s face?

Savage Streets was disturbing (Linnea Quigley’s character, damn), and astonishingly mean-spirited. Well, what else would you expect from a movie called Savage Streets, right?
One thing that took the edge off for me was its cheesy, low-budget appearance, boom mics in the shot, etc.

I actually enjoyed Born Innocent. I mean yeah, it was shocking, and depressing as all get-out. I just wanted to take Linda – Chris Parker, wasn’t that her name? – by the hand and run away with her and not be found by the authorities. Umm, of course, my hopeless crush on Linda at the time (I was 14 years old) maybe had something to do with that!

Savage Island, now that’s a real hoot. Linda is at the very beginning, and the very end of this bad incoherent mess of two bad foreign films badly edited together. Oh, it’s bad! However, the box art for the VHS release is eye-popping. Haven’t seen it yet? Go to Google Image Search and type “linda blair savage island” and your eyes will almost certainly pop… out. Pop out. Yes. Your eyes will pop out.

I found a preview of some movie called Imps* on iTunes. It was shelved in 1983, and only just released in 2009. Linda’s scene is shown in its entirety on iTunes as the “Don’t” girl.

Fathom Events screenings are known mainly for concerts, Anime, Metropolitan Opera, or Ultimate Fighting. So this is a great surprise.

movietickets.com came through for me in purchasing my ticket in advance. I’ll give you guys the lowdown on the “Event” in my neck of the woods after 9/30/10.

I wasn’t sure where to mention this, so I’ll just add it here.

That line of dialog about Merrin in Africa:
“The exorcism supposedly lasted months. Heard it damn near killed him.”

Um, “months”?? Not hours, days, or even weeks, but months.
Sounds like hearsay. You know how a story’s facts get embellished over a long period of time until fact becomes a sort of legend or myth.

“Your mother still rots in hell, Karras” That one, you mean? Expect a blurry, recorded-to-VHS version, if any version is still out there 🙁

    Sofia said:

It’s in Chris’ bedroom, Ceru. 🙂 She let Regan sleep in her bedroom that night. In the novel, she returns Rags to her own room after investigating the attic.

Ah, so it is! My mistake. Shoulda known by the wallpaper 😉
Still, typical of Warner’s to use a still that you don’t see in the movie.

As for Kinderman’s conversation with Chris, instead of just seeing his face as she opens the door, I guess it would’ve disrupted the flow of Karras going up to the room and seeing… well, y’know.

But it does sorta explain why it took so long for Chris and Kinderman to get to Regan’s room.

Gotta love the irony of that third photo of Regan’s bedroom.
It was the only photo on the back of the old clamshell VHS case, and yet that shot was never in the movie.
The whole scene, Yes (“I like pizzas too, but I’m not gonna marry one”, etc.), but not *that* particular moment.

Good point there about the eyes.
When Karras becomes possessed, and his eyes turn that pale green color, he falls backward, gets back up, etc. The first time I saw that scene I thought ‘Whoa, that was quick! It took half the movie for Regan’s eyes to get like that.’ The shock value and payoff was definitely worth it, though.

I don’t mean to hijack this thread with another question, but do you think ‘Possessed Karras’ would have strangled the cured Regan to death if ‘Good Karras’ hadn’t fought back? His meat-hook hands were coming to get her!

Well, this’ll go nicely with my Regan bobble-head/bobble-bed!

But the “actual dialogue and sounds”? Um, will they include any certain, shall we say, profane quotes from Ms. McCambridge?

Oh man, that looked like a treasure trove of photographs.
Like you said, for promotional purposes, as the only photo I recognize is the one of grinning Linda in the checkered shirt.

C’mon, anonymous bidder winner, share the wealth!

I’m on the fence about this one. I do want to be scared, but not sickened. What does one take for a queasy stomach anyway? Dramamine?

    GREAT comparison job there.
Man, those hues and saturation levels are all over the place <- (Photoshop nerd) But look at the fifth column, the one of Merrin. The 1997 DVD pic has a too-dark, almost sepia tone. The VYNS pic has that cursed blue hue (dare I say, it's going on frickin' purple!) Not to sound like a butt-kissin' sycophant, but the Blu-Ray picture really does seem to have the brightest image, and most natural looking tones.
Aw, what the hell, I'm a butt-kissin' sycophant.

October 5th, still a while away.

Well, my anticipation for the Exorcist Blu-Ray just went up by oh, a thousand!! The scenes looks brighter, or more vibrant than I’m used to.

Just look at that behind-the-scenes footage, this is what we’ve been waiting to see. Linda, in her demonic make-up, just smiling casually. Or checking her milky contact lenses during a break in, I’m guessing, the levitation scene. Fascinating stuff.
