ParticipantOh my goodness. I just let Julie know about this and she replied with:
Dear Ryan
As a late, very dear friend of my husband’s and mine used to say…….”There are no coincidences with the Holy Spirit!” How lovely that the book wound up in your hands! God bless you.Julie
This is absolutely amazing. I’ve never felt closer to the Exorcist/Blatty community more than I do at this very moment. It’s as if it wasn’t initially inscribed to me, but now it has been. Miracles do happen!

ParticipantThe funny thing was, I picked up the Bible last night and started reading various passages for the first time in years, then this happens the following evening.
Actually, and this is going off-topic slightly, I came out of my History and Philosophy of Science class at University today – somewhat depressed by the constant views of the Atheistic lecturer, and began thinking about and appreciating how Blatty is on the complete opposite end of the scope in terms of faith, and hope. This has instilled in me so much… I don’t know what it is, but it’s idyllic.
I lost a relative, yes, but this is making it all the more tolerable. When one door closes, another window certainly does open. God bless you all!
Edit: Yes, Mike, I’ll let you know once I read them. 🙂

ParticipantI really wish he would.
I let Julie know that I intend on reciting the first paragraph of The Second Spring sermon at my relatives’ funeral this Wednesday. Needless to say, I’d much rather be able to read something penned by Blatty himself.
Incidentally (oh how I love using that word), this – that is, this forum, this subject-matter, this type of hope and faith and strange coincidence – this is truly where the spice of life lies. We are surrounded by quality material that is not only profound, it’s really damn cool at the same time (i.e. TNC, EIII films), and we hardly need to be wacko Bible-bashing Christians in order to attain all of this wonder. I feel like we’re in an ideal realm of our own; one that is submerged with intellectual thought, craft and stunning film-making, all the while retaining a dignified view of faith and God, while still being able to implement a sense of humor, not worrying about the fiery pit of Hell for saying “fuck”. You know? We’re rational, and yet we’re humble. We have amazing novels and films and concepts at our disposal, yet we can be ourselves. We are in touch with Julie, to some extent, and we can always confide in one-another. This really is, when you think about it, the most empyreal of all interest groups any people could hope to be associated with. And yet there are so few of us.
All hail WPB!

ParticipantIt’s fiction.

ParticipantI adore the complexity of it all.

ParticipantWhere on earth did you find that?!
Ryan
ParticipantI re-created mine recently:
Ryan
ParticipantAnother Merrin/Morning parallel: While Merrin and Karras are performing the exorcism, Merrin must yell “Damien!” to reclaim his attention. The same thing happens while Morning implores him to ‘fight’ at the end of The Exorcist III.
“DAMIEN!”
Morning even looks quite like Merrin…
Ryan
ParticipantGood points, except the “What we give to the poor…” is printed on a calendar in Merrin’s wallet, nor Karras’. 😛
