So, the TV series will star Miley Cyrus as Regan Macneil!

Maybe I missed something, but where in the name of all things Holy, did we see anything that says Miley Cyrus will be Regan MacNeil? The day this happens is the day I take my tv outside and shoot it.

I don't think a mini-series would have anything “extraneous.” Blatty wrote very intense conversations between Karras and the demon not to mention the intriguing plots involving Mary Jo as well as Karl's and Willie's daughter, Elvira.

If given the right amount of time and money, The Exorcist mini-series could easily compete for a place alongside one of Stephen King's made-for-television movies that have always been successful.

I was disappointed that Elvira was omitted. The importance of that story was to show that every character in the book was flawed and struggling with their own personal demons. It allowed the reader to connect with the characters of Karl and Willie. The film version made them basically throw away characters. It stripped the maternal and paternal instincts of the characters, and removed their reason for sticking around when most people would have said “screw this!”

So I can understand wanting that storyline included. But there would still need to be a lot of padding. I know that Blatty is heavily involved with the proposed miniseries, but I just fear that any additions to the story to stretch the run time may dilute what makes the story so captivating. I just don't want them (execs) to try to re-invent the wheel.

I have to say, I'm kind of excited about this. I love the book, and would really like to see a version that would be able to explore the book more fully without time constraints. Also, this does open the door for a Legion mini series that more closely follows the book, and would require recasting of Kinderman like the move did.

I felt the film pretty much followed the book perfectly. I am not sure how to expand it without adding extraneous material that is not in Blatty's original story.
