    Great points, karras13!

While the demon inside of the Regan could not be physically harmed, do you (and others who contribute here) believe the demon died at the end of the film or did the demon simply return to his origin?

I always saw it as the demon going back to 'hell' or wherever it came from. After reading 'The Devil Rocked Her Cradle' by David st Clair it is said in there that the demon who possessed Mary could only go back to hell when its host killed his/herself. The priest did manage to exorcise it from Mary and it went 'into' a flock of chickens which immediatly threw themselves at the walls (if I remember right) and died. So I always thought Karras knew what he was doing and that killing himself was the only way to get rid of the demon so it couldnt possess anyone else.

I love them! really must get hold of them. Not watched them for years. When I was 15 (many moons ago lol) I was in a play of Dracula (I played Jonathon Harker before you ask) and we took it to the Edinburgh festival. We used the music from Phantasm as the backing soundtrack.

Hi guys long time no post! Lol. Hope you all ok. anyhoo..

    Deepest scenes for me are…

Chris meeting Karras and asking about how you get an exorcism. Love that scene.

Regan in the hospital having the tests. I still cant watch her having the needle in her neck even after all these years!

The deleted scene with Karras and Merrin on the stairs…Why this girl? Indeed.

Karras receiving the last rites at the bottom of the stairs especially since I found out it was from a real priest! I didnt know that till I watched the extras.

There is so much more going on in that scene than a second cigarette… that’s why I have never noticed it all these years. It is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.

Mine too. A beautiful scene between my fave 2 actors in the film. I also agree that it is just a continuity mistake with the cigarette. The dialogue flows so well that there is no way that a few seconds and Karras offering another one would work.

I dont notice any other bloops in the film apart from the fact that from the outside of the house Regans window is not where it should be from the inside of the house. As you go up the stairs the hall doubles back on the stairs and there are windows along the hall. Regans bedroom windows are also on that wall. But when you see it from the outside there are only her bedroom windows and then the main part of the house juts out and there are not windows. Also when she threw Burke out of the window he would have just landed in the drive rather than down the stairs. The same would be for Karras. It would be impossible for him to fall down the stairs.

I only saw this the other week and I really liked it. I agree that Julia Stiles was miscast and just too young. I also agree there was some ‘nicking from other films’ going on. Did anyone make the connection with The Sixth Sense tho? I got it in the first half hour so kinda ruined the rest of the film with the obvious sign posts. Not bad for a remake tho. And sorry, but I quite liked the TCM remakes!

I read somewhere that a lot of way more famous actresses were considered for the role but Shelly D was picked purely because of her face. She has the most ‘rabbit caught in the headlights’ expression I have ever seen.
