I’m of the opinion that Pazuzu did pretend to be Regan’s friend (to aid in possessing her), but once he had complete control he presented his ‘Captain Howdy scary face’ to keep her frightened, lowering her faith and keeping her scared so he could remain in possession. We saw how Karras was able to fight the possession using his faith and will – so it is possible.
Pazuzu did ‘befriend’ her to gain possession, then kept her frightened with the Captain Howdy face presentation during the possession.
Just a theory.
I wouldn’t say it was seducing her, but I believe, once the possession was in its defining stages, it is how Pazuzu presented himself to Regan in her mind.
Father Lamont, to be honest with you, your attitude in this thread has been quite questionable.
I have 15 copies of the Exorcist on VHS, 3 of Heretic and 1 of Legion. Does that make me more or less of a fan than someone who has only seen it on cable? No, it doesn’t. It’s all about appreciation.
I do not have the box you are looking for but am searching online and checking eBay daily.
What have you done, exactly, to find this box that is so precious to you??

Nice idea, but The Criterion Collection do not own the distribution rights – Warner Brothers do. And I do not see WB releasing their rights to the highest grossing horror film of all time.
A big stretch – but nice thought. It’s possible. I always took Evil against Evil to mean exactly what you said, granville1 – that the ancients fought evil (sickness, etc.) with evil.
I always thought Merrin was the only one who saw that, just as Karras was the only one who saw his mother on the bed.
