I don’t disagree with you,oki9Sedo… Maybe WPB was a little incautious. I posted the clip a while ago. It’s interesting aside from this conversation 😉 . I don’t think he meant that Karras was literally hoping for a net; He didn’t want to die… like you say, he wanted to save Regan (and the rest) and if he had to die in the process, so be it. Either way, he jumped and saved everyone. Yeah, I think he jumped for the same reason you do; “he’d only overcome the demon for long enough to make himself jump”. Had he stayed in the room, things probably would have gone MUCH worse.
I hadn’t heard about that side of the story… It’s possible; that sort of association would cause emotional instability. Now if that really happend, we would have a very interesting bunch of theories regarding the poltergeist activity and possession. Maybe a mental state like that could produce RSPK (psychokinesis). And maybe he was relieved that she died, giving him a guilt complex, and somehow causing the “haunting”. I believe it was true possession. Possibly the exposure to the occult opened his mind allowing a demon (devil) in. So many possibilities…
That threw me the first time. There’s a clip I posted under “Blatty and Blair” where Blatty says that Karras is hoping there’s a net out there… Fear of the demon getting control again, I think. Or mental collapse from all he had seen? There are so many theories 😉
His aunt “Harriet” (did I spell that right?) was a spiritualist. I may be a bit foggy on details, it’s been a while since I read it. He used the ouija board to try to contact her after she died. As far as I remember, the activity started after her death. The boy and his mother (and another relative) were on the bed when they asked if the noises were her doing. Either the bed shook or there was a scratching from inside the mattress, seeming to them to mean “yes”.

I tried to get the title after reading your reply and I couldn’t find out. I’ve only gotten see E, E3 and Rudy… I haven’t even seen Fear of God. Maybe I’ll be able to get the collection box set… (Bezalel was nice enough to give me a synopsis of the box sets.) It says on ebay that they’ll be selling more stuff from “the historic archive of William Randolph Hearst’s San Francisco Examiner newspaper”. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for more like this 😉 Speaking of FOG, do you have a few screencaps of the interview with JM, Justin? I don’t mean to be a bother, I’m just an obsessed fan trying to get a fix 😛
