ParticipantFriends,
I imagine I will be lynched for this statement, but I must speak out:
I liked TVYKS; in fact, I preferred it, as it fleshed out the film and in my opinion, made the adaptation more scary (i.e. the subliminal images). So I for one, am glad that this version is being used.

ParticipantBowdern,
I haven’t read Wilson’s book for a long time, but no, it’s nothing to do with Creationism. If my memory serves me correctly, I think it’s about his problem with the film’s theology and impact on those watching it. He makes some interesting points, but again, I remember disagreeing with him on most things. I should re-read it again, to confirm that statement…

Does anyone know whether Screenpress Books is still operational? I did enjoy their books on The Exorcist and The Ninth Configuration and was hoping to propose them another book…

ParticipantBowdern,
I respect Wilson as a Christian and Creationist (of which I am both), but he seems exceptionally harsh on Blatty’s novel. Sure, I’m not a Catholic nor do I believe in its interpretation / tenets, but I really believe it to be a powerfully religious novel with a strong Christian message. It’s worth a read, even though many are likely to disagree.

ParticipantBadLocust77,
You should write an article on the film. You seem passionate about it and I think it would be a most interesting read…

ParticipantFriends,
There is a great essay exploring the two novels in my AMERICAN EXORCIST volume entitled “A Devil for the Day: William Peter Blatty, Ira Levin, and the Revision of the Satanic” (by John Langan). Well worth a look…

ParticipantFriends,
I’ve always struggled with this film. I hate it, but I do sometimes wonder would it be alright if it were not “Exorcist”-themed? As in, just another horror film. Also, compared to the prequels, I am not sure which is the worst. I really don’t. I suppose this one, but I still watch this from time to time. I must like pain… lol

ParticipantJohnnyAlucard2009,
Welcome. I caught that scene, but never minded that Karras missed the connection. Most people wouldn’t catch it in the real world…
I’m interested to know more about your “university dissertation”. I’m the editor of AMERICAN EXORCIST (http://www.mcfarlandpub.com/book-2.php?id=978-0-7864-3597-5) and am considering a sequel, so perhaps I could use it? We should talk one day soon…

This question makes me wonder; how would have the proposed EXORCIST television series worked out? As in, what would happen each and every week?

Participantdseabroo,
I can see how you came to that conclusion! ๐ No, what I mean is that, as a supernatural phenomenon, I don’t believe that the dead can’t talk to the living, as there’s no evidence for it in the Bible and the Bible clearly teaches that such things theologically can not be! And before someone calls out “what about the “witch of Endor?” (1 Samuel 28:7-20), God allowed it in this one exception. So in regards to EVP, such a claim is a demonic deception (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). For more on this issue, check out this link: http://www.gotquestions.org/praying-to-the-dead.html
