In my opinon the scariest scene for me is when FR. Karras goes for the first time to visit Regan .It is the first time we see Regan all possed out. I can remember the reaction it got from me when I saw this scene for the first time.(Scared the living s@%t out of me) It it is also when the demon throws up on FR. Karras. Classic …June 4, 2008 at 11:59 PM #20485colombiancannon
ParticipantThe masterbation scene scared the hell out of me. The scene was like, what the hell is going on and why is it on film? I was 10 at the time when i saw it in the theater. I was freaked and the scene ended quickly and the head turning scared me too.

ParticipantFor once I have to agree with Colombia. The masturbation scene is the scene that made the movie. Although vomiting in movies is a bit of a taboo, other movies have been made since that show this. How many films have you seen though where a child is shown masturbating? Not very many. In fact I am surprised that there is no push to ban the film based on the fact it could be conscrewed as child pornography: My guess, good luck. The same crowd that would be the most verbial against child pornography also happen to like the film: Religious catholics. I certainly hope the remake includes this scene, although I wouldn’t fall out of my chair if they “forgot” that one. Just my opinion.

KeymasterYeah I’m going with the crucifix scene. The first time I watched The Exorcist, whenever the story ventured into Regan’s bedroom while she was possessed I’d get the chills. Such a compelling film.

ParticipantThe scariest scene for me, when I was a kid, was when Possessed Regan pounds Karras, with double strapped hands, on to the floor, the whole house shakes and Merrin also ends up on the floor. The two priests look up to see Regan standing on top of the bed howling and clawing at the air, along with an image of the statue of Pazuzu appearing in the room as well. That scared the living diarrhea out of me!
But as an adult. The scariest scene to me is when Regan is supposedly STRAPPED to the bed, after Karras leaves, and Kinderman sees her floating across the window. Implying: HOLY DEVIL POWERS she’s all over the freakin’ place, strapped down or not!

ParticipantThe scene were shes having the inseflogram (Excuse Spelling) The blood that squirts out of the neck, or the part where she howls like a wolf and there is the statue of the demon in that light. Scared the *&@# out of me!

ParticipantThe scene when the demon changes its form into Karras’ mother really scared the Hell out of me. It seemed to be its most powerful psychological attack & you could tell by the expression on Karras’ face that he was mentally falling apart.
I remember the first time I saw The Exorcist, I was 4 years old and that scene was the straw that brooke the camels back for me. The entire film shhok me to my core but that scene made me break out in tears of absolute fright.July 15, 2008 at 11:59 PM #20652Witch of Endor
ParticipantYOU SAW THE FILM AT 4-YEARS-OLD? Please tell me this is a typo!
July 15, 2008 at 11:59 PM #20658X
ParticipantNope, no typo, I was 4 years old and living in Brooklyn NY at the time. I lived on a black with a movie theater on it and I still remember the lines for The Exorcist, however, I didn’t see it at that theater, I saw it in a drive in theater in Canada. Anyway even though I was 4 years old and really didn’t understand the film all too well, I do remember being utterly terrified, so badly in fact that I coudln’t sleep with the lights off until I was 15 or so. The second time I saw it I was 9 and I understood it a lot more than at 4, and it scared me even worse at 9 years of age. Amazing what a tremendous impact that movie has had on me.

ParticipantYes, I agree. The movie had a tremendous impact on me as well when I saw it on video at 15yo at a party. I was rather surprised it did b/c I believed that I was past the point in my life when a horror film could had such an affect on me. I’m surprised your parents would let you watch it at the drive-through at 4 though.
