Old lady in horse carriage in Iraq

    I have always thought the same thing about the woman in the carriage … just another foreboding of eerie things to come.

    on dvd the freidkin says the old woman is 104 years old

    Whoa! I agree, this is a Parallel Image, and I always thought it WAS listed in the section, along with the gentleman with similar whited out eyes as possessed Regan. My bad,

    In the scene where father Merrin is in Iraq, a horse carriage almost hits him, inside the carriage is an old lady with a ravaged face, looking like the possessed Regan in the first stages of her possession. If you freeze frame, you can see her face smiling, very spooky. I don’t see this mentioned in the parallel imagery section.

    Captain, you are right on target. I also thought that the guy with whited-out eyes was a focal point of things to come. I wonder how many things all of us fans could list as parallels throughout the film?

    I think Kermode mentions the parallel in his book.
