ParticipantHi, first time poster here.
I searched for this online but couldn't find the answer, or even anyone interested in asking the question. I'm wondering about the standing statue that Merrin encounters in Iraq just before the film switches to the U.S. Is that a real statue in Iraq, or is it a facsimile or miniature used just for the film?
Thanks!

ParticipantI would guess it's a facsimile miniature that they moved from Iraq and possibly re-used in the “Pazuzu vision” scene that occurs during the exorcism. Or, if the Iraq statue was really as large as it looks on-screen in the prologue, then they could have done up a smaller one for the exorcism scene.

ParticipantThe statue of the Demon Pazuzu was constructed for the shooting of the film, due to years of warfare in the Middle East many of the great temples and palaces had been destroyed, the area where this scene is shot, Ninevah, was once home to the kings, Ashurbanipal, and Nebuchadnezzar, a dynasty as rich as ancient Egypt, and the very cradle of civilisation, Mesopotamia, (the land between two rivers) the Tigris and Euphrates, was a hotbed of political and military unrest, not to mention the division between the religious leanings, all added to the collapse of possibly the greatest civilisation on earth.
To this day, these lands are embroiled in continuing warfare, I wonder if William Peter Blatty was conscious of his decision to set his novel in Northern Iraq, given it's strong belief in God's and other Deities.

ParticipantFrom pictures & drawings I've found on line I created two full size Pazuzu statues for my front & back yard. I sprayed them with a base coat of paint & then aged & grained them. Having a formal background in art helps me become creative with my home inside & out. Needless to say some neighbors give the statue in the front yard strange glances though I have it place amoung various plants so they cannot get a direct & full view.

ParticipantSome folks need to have their closets bolted, nailed, and triple locked. Just sayin'.

The statue was made out of fiberglass & then sprayed with various color coats & aged & grained to make it look like stone.

Satanas, you want to post a pic of your statues from your yard? It would be interesting for us to see on here.
