I’m so happy to see the differences in tonal values due to Roizman’s control over the transfer. Amen!

Justin, this is an outstanding comparison! A few very good points by seeing your chart is the re-coloring of the bed linens (from gold to green) in the “Lost & Unconnected” scene; the brightest of the entire room in “The Sow Is Mine” scene; the more realistic colors in the “Know What She Did?” scene; and the truer color of Merrin’s purple stole in the “Ritual Guidelines” scene.

Ceru, you are very accurate on your observations about the 1997 DVD and TVYNS releases. A lot of us have made that same comparison on here about the nauseating purplish-blue tint that Friedkin did the last theatrical release (I refer to this as putting lipstick on the Mona Lisa quite often). Friedkin is a great director; not an even good cinematographer … look at he did to The French Connection.

I am completely happy with the bit of snippets I see like this. In time … in time.

BTW, when I saw The Exorcist in 1973, 1974, …, here’s what it looked like in movie theaters during my youth! 🙂

This is really what I was waiting for since … ever!
It is really wonderful and “strange” to see the set footage because it looks exactly like I always thought … nevertheless … poor Linda, I must admit I felt a bit sorry in the last scene where she is busy with the contact lenses…

I actually thought of you right away, Sofia. Something tells me you’re going to be super-impressed with the features on this Blu-ray.

Aww, caps, thanks!! xx. Do you think that the remaining cut scenes will be released, at last??

Sofia, which scene from the novel are you referring to ?
Can’t remember anymore. Do you have by chance a picture related to that deleted scene ?

    Thank you !

I think she was referring to the scene where Regan goes to her mother, who is writing on the desk, to complain about the noises …

    Sure, Ananta!

Here’s the excerpt of that scene:

Back to the study. The script. Chris read. Halfway through, she saw Regan coming toward her.
    “Hi, honey. What’s wrong?”
“There’s these real funny noises, Mom.”
    “In your room?”
“It’s like knocking. I can’t go to sleep.”
Where the hell are those traps!
“Honey, sleep in my bedroom and I’ll see what it is.”
Chris led her to the bedroom and tucked her in.
“Can I watch TV for a while ’til I sleep?”
    “Where’s your book?”
    “I can’t find it. Can I watch?”
“Sure; okay.” Chris tuned in a channel on the bedroom portable. “Loud enough?”
    “Yes, Mom.”
    “Try to sleep.”
Chris turned out the light and went down the hall. She climbed the narrow, carpeted stairs that led to the attic…”

It’d be great to find out if this kind of stuff will be featured on the Blue-ray (great post, Sofia).

I think they tweaked the colors for the green band trailer. Chris doesn’t seem to have blood on her face.

Found a better quality version of the green band trailer here.

I have hope since the ‘Faces of Evil: The Different Versions of The Exorcist’ featurette is said to contain outtakes from the film.

Would be great to finally see the trip to Washington in full, the ‘funny noises’ scene, and the extended dialogue between Chris and Kinderman after he arrives during the exoricsm… plus whatever other cuts there are!

Gotta love the irony of that third photo of Regan’s bedroom.
It was the only photo on the back of the old clamshell VHS case, and yet that shot was never in the movie.
The whole scene, Yes (“I like pizzas too, but I’m not gonna marry one”, etc.), but not *that* particular moment.

It’s in Chris’ bedroom, Ceru. 🙂 She let Regan sleep in her bedroom that night. In the novel, she returns Rags to her own room after investigating the attic.

Ju, what is the extended dialogue between Chris and Kinderman?

Thank you very much Sofia ;-)
I really just hope these deleted scenes will finally be featured on this ultimate blu-ray edition. We’ve been waiting so long for that kind of stuff to be released!

Ju, what is the extended dialogue between Chris and Kinderman?

This is from the Exorcist special of Video Watchdog Magazine:

“Although the cutaways to Kinderman were scripted and apparently shot, they were drastically reduced by Friedkin in the editing. In the final cut, we merely see Chris opening the door to Kinderman. The following dialogue between them is missing:

Kinderman: Look, I’m sorry to disturb you at this hour of the night, but I’m afraid that I’m going to have to talk to your daughter, Mrs. MacNeil. And I’d like to take a look at her room, if you don’t mind.
    Chris: Regan’s bedroom?
Kinderman: Yes, immediately please. I have a warrant.
Chris: Oh, please, not now! She’s gotten worse, Lieutenant. Please! Please, not now!

Are there other scenes that could be included? As far as I know we have: Washington, spiderwalk 2, Kinderman-Chris, Chris-Regan (read above) …
