ParticipantI just watched the BTS material on BR. In Raising Hell: Filming the Exorcist there are a few extra minimal scenes not shown in the theaters. This documentary offers more BTS material and runs the longest of the three. It is extremely information.
Faces of Evil: The Different Versions of The Exorcist answers the question about different versions of the spiderwalk scene including the bloody variant. Amen! If only we could actually see the entire shot, it would appear quite realistic. However, there is lighting rig that blocks the majority of the bloody scene descent from Roizman’s BTS crew. Hager appears to descend all steps and then opens wide on the bottom step covered with a towel. It is very synchronized and looks as though she just opens her mouth at the bottom on the last step. Roizman talks about the use CGI to eliminate Hager's wires. I have always had the opinion that imploring CGI was one way to enhance the scene and offer more credible. To be honest, I think Hager deserved some kind of stunt credit because there’s no telling how many times she had to that awkward scene. Â
The Exorcist Locations: Georgetown Then and Now explores some of the shooting locations and lets us in on the fact that a few of the scenes were film on location inside the interiors of the certain buildings/facilities. For instance, Mama Karras’ apartment is an actual rental in Manhattan; Blair's arteriogram was film in a NY hospital; and the actual Iraq footage shooting location took place at an actual archeological dig site.
I did look at the feature and watched the levitation scene specifically. Somebody has to tell me if you see the wires or not on Regan. IMHO, they are minimized in comparison to what Justin published a while ago on here. (I am sure I am subliminally convincing myself they are there!)
For your enjoyment, here is the personal message included in the Digibook BR by William Friedkin:

ParticipantYou're like me, Justin. If there's a sign that reads, “Do Not Push Here,” I always push it anyway!Â
I'm glad you enjoyed them. It's very late here and I didn't have time to publish the spiderwalk from the 2nd documentary … I know that scene interested both of us and can now be kinda of put to bed! BTW, I did check the BR for the wires during the levitation scene … they are still there.
For some reason I had my set on 60Mhz instead of 120 and when I switched it, they very obvious.
Have a Great Day!

PS: I love the shit out of the Twix bar scene!

ParticipantThanks for sharing FB, I love how they clearly block out the Coke logo when you can clearly tell what it is.. Staring you right in the face. =P
Linda looks like someone I know in the 7th picture believe it or not.. Creepy.
As far as the 14th picture of Ellen talking with Billy.. I can just image the conversation “Hmmm, are you sure this is safe?” Hehe.

Good call, hammer. That could easily be Eileen Dietz. Is that a wig, even?

ParticipantI think it is Dietz with wig … The pic with Linda and the dummy is really … scary …

ParticipantIt is really difficult to say because the pic is too bad…
It could be Linda too … In the masturbation pics I have no doubt it is Linda.

ParticipantOkay, I've been “pinned on a topic!” Yeah, my first pin (although I have no clue what it means or who does it).Â
At any rate, I believe a series of photos will help in understanding why I think the last photo is Blair. Hopefully, the entire sequence caption is clear enough to read on each pic with Roizman and Blair commenting, but I retyped them:
Owen Roizman: “It was a very tricky scene to shoot…”
Â
Owen Roizman: “…because we had to have all these devices installed in her mouth.”
Â
Â
Owen Roizman: “…but I filmed mainly behind-the-scenes footage of Eileen Dietz”
Â
Owen Roizman: “But finally, when we were ready to shoot …”
Â
Owen Roizman: “…Linda came in and we made the shots mostly with her.”
Â
Owen Roizman: “In the final cut…”
Â
Owen Roizman: “…there's a subliminal cut of Eileen that we had made, but basically it's Linda.
Â
Linda Blair: “The whole time, of course, I have to keep my mouth open…”
Â
Linda Blair: “…because one the equipment is laid on and put in…”
Â
Linda Blair: “…and it goes in my mouth and comes back out and you cannot close your mouth…”
Â
Linda Blair: “…because if you close your teeth it'll backfire into my throat.”
Â
Linda Blair: “It was really, really hard.”
Â
From the film level, I can see the second pic being that of Blair because of some of the facial features (like her pugged nose which Eileen does not have) along with the dialogue that Roizman is speaking. If you disagree, that's fine, too. Ultimately, in the end, we have footage that would never have been released if it wasn't for Roizman and the BR.Â

ParticipantIt could be … I will tell you as soon I get it … I hate that short cut with Dietz vomiting in the movie …

ParticipantI think this makes my 1000th post, so it must be time for me to go …
On that note, here is the bloody spiderwalk. Based on the novel, the original filming sequence of Linda with snake-like tongue, I never knew it existed and I'm happy to say, that while I vehemently denied its filming, it is yet another mystery of this mysterious film.

ParticipantI am not sure I understood… do you mean you did not see the “original” spiderwalk before?
