The transfers are GORGEOUS! I have a 42 inch SHARP LCD HD TV, ONKYO 7.1 surround sound…
The picture quality is mind boggling, the sound is crisp, seems like you have to really crank it to have the theater experience however, even at low volumes you can hear an obvious improvement over the DVD versions.
The new special features are nice, it's too bad there was no sound to the behidn the scenes footage, real bummer. And I don't understand what's the issue with not having Ms McCambridge on the extra features! It dissapoints!
Still, at $23.00 it doesn't break the bank and the joy I got to see this masterpiece at it's best, is priceless!

Ok, as movies are edited, (forget the shooting) certain choices are passed on to the editor. In this case it might have been Friedkin’s decision to have this recurring noises over the scenes you talked about.
Reason for it,
It reminds the viewer of things to come, related to the past.
When you see the one eyed man along with the fierce fire next to him, all presented with the hammer sounds; It’s an obvious attempt to recreate some sort of hellish atmosphere.
When Merrin receives the letter and you hear the sounds, it allows you (the viewer) to have a more solid idea of what is going to happen in the future.

Reason why my Damian has an “a” is because my ex wife insisted in not having the same spelling as the kid from the Omen.
Dang it… I still think it would have been cool to name my daughter Regan though. The ex wife said “no dice” on that one.
So her middle name is Robin, my son picked it. Cool fact Robin and Regan have the same number of letters and start an end with same one! =) I win!
