I just really hope the cover art isn't like the “Extended Director's Cut.”  The Region 2 Blu ray is like that, and if were there (R2), I'd not be happy.  IMO, they should preserve the original cover artwork.  I know it's “all about money” (and perhaps attracting people to the film by a different picture), but they should never mess with a classic, successful, original film's “trademark,” if you will.  Father Merrin and the light shining down IS “The Exorcist” to many of us.

I've heard from people in video stores that the cases to which you're referring were were cheaper to produce.  I have no idea if this is true, but I do know I don't like those cases, and am glad they stopped making them.  They weather more easily, and don't fit on the shelf with other dvds.  For an OCD person (lol), it's annoying.

Even the newer dvd cases now are poor quality.  Notice there are holes in the plastic behind the artwork, whereas years ago, the cases were much more solid.  It's all about money.

Thank you, Ryan!  Any new information is always appreciated!  Hopefully we'll see a release date sooner than later.  Again, many thanks.

Not only does amazon have it for $3.99 today, Best Buy does, too!  The 40th Anniversary edition must be coming out soon.  I've never seen a never-opened/brand new classic movie go for so cheap in my life!

That's awesome!  They always pull the “Sale” signs down when I go in!  LOL!  I just went to wbonline and it's $13.99!  Good for you!! Laughing

No problem, Regan 88!  You might better hurry, though:  They're getting harder and harder to find.  Amazon had them for $5 a couple weeks ago, too, but they're back up to $10.  Walmarts around here seem to be running pretty low, but every now and then you'll strike gold.  Head out to the suburbs of wherever you are…places where there are a lot of conservatives.  LOL!  I've found more copies in those places. Laughing

Yes.  I picked up a couple today at a Walmart in Alpharetta, GA.  Good luck!

Thanks, Captain Howdy!  Glad to be here!  I think you're absolutely right.  They most likely are selling those copies to make room for the new release coming next year.  Still, being the classic it is (and having purchased it for so much more at various times over the years), I couldn't believe it's available at that price.  The hoarder in me took over, and I was picking up copies for friends, whether they want it or not!  You should have seen the face of the cashier.  I think I frightened her.  Lol!  I can't mimic her voice in print, obviously, but she was a very, VERY southern-speaking woman at a Walmart in the outskirts of Atlanta.  She looked at me like I was going to put a spell on her or something, and went (in her deep southern drawl), “I went to see this movie when it first came out.  Loooord, mah sister had me take a tranquilizer before I even went in!”  I laughed out loud!
