ParticipantFor me, although both are works of genius, I would have to say I slightly prefer the novel. As disturbing certain scenes are in the film, I honestly get more freaked out after reading the scenes from the novel. One scene that gave me sleepless nights (even with the lights on) was the masterbation scene – “Chris blinked at the mad-staring, grinning face, at the cracked, parched lips and foxlike eyes…” Creeps me out everytime!
I really liked the character of Karl in the book, his secret meetings and guilt over his daughter, and the care and commitment he shows towards Regan is so touching, something I really thought should have been incorporated into the movie.

For once, I actually prefer the cover art for the forthcoming UK release of the Blu Ray. Altho, sadly not a digi-book edition which means I STILL have to buy both copies!!

ParticipantI used to have a pirate copy on VHS that came in the original UK WB large case, but it has gone walk-about over the years. So now, the copies I own are the U.S 25th Anniversary VHS, UK 25th Ann Box-set VHS, the UK DVD releases of 25th Ann.Edition and 2000 TVYNS and the Exorcist Anthology 3 disc boxset. Next to add is the Blu-Ray! Woohoo!
The only copies of the novel I own are a 1971 first book club edition on Hardback and the 1977 re-issue on paperback. Looking forward to the special edition reprint from Cemetary Dance Publications coming soon. That will contain both The Exorcist and Legion in deluxe hardcover edition.
