ParticipantI really liked the episode. I thought it was a better then all the more recent possession movie that have come out lately. The demon is really tearing things up a wreaking havoc on the show. Lovin it!

ParticipantI have seriously looked for supernatural occurrences, recorded or otherwise. I have never seen anything that is not unexplainable. Especially if you have a little knowledge about magic. Not black or white magic but Doug Henning, David Copperfield, Chris Angel magic. Magicians have taken up the mantle of debunking so called supernatural powers since Houdini and continuing on with James Randy'’s million dollar challenge.
Â
Some are just coincidental occurrences that may appear supernatural, but most are outright fraudulent for profit (IE: Bob Larsen, Sylvia Brown, etc, etc, etc.) and just for kicks.
Â
My only suggestion for you Splake would be to learn to be more critical of these claims. While you see spirituality in the Michel tapes, most of us hear tragic abuse and criminal neglect of a very sick girl.

ParticipantI love the “Demon Test”. After clicking through a couple pages there is a link to Paypal. What a great guy! I almost hope there's a hell to watch this guy burn in it…….

ParticipantAwesome post granville. To some extent I think you hit the nail on the head when it comes to my case.Â

I am an atheist but was a believer. When I got the courage to start questioning my faith, I started with the threatening aspects and why would a loving god need to use those tactics. I'm not going to say that is the sole reason I became an atheist, but it is what started me on that path, not that it's a bad thing. I am quite happy and have always felt liberated since my conversion.
I did research on exorcism (among other things.) and really never did find any evidence of any real supernatural occurrences….

Thank you!
“SOme of the added scenes are Burke talking to Karras about faith and how Burke had at one time was seriously considering becoming a priest but how he sold out as a director. “
Wow! Chris mentioned this in passing while she was with Burke in the study room.
What’s the play length of time, btw? How much of Chapter 1 was adapted to the stage?
🙂
The play is 95 minutes. Very little. There is the scene with the doctor which was altered a little bit. THere was also the urine scene. (No urine though!) No crucifix scene either which had me nervous!

What are the new scenes? Did you record anything, by chance?
No recording. They were pretty strict on that.
Â
The play opens with Richard Chamberlain saying….
Â
“Auschwitz
Dachou
Somalia”
Then talks about the history of the Devil. Very cool. Somalia plays into it with Carla. Her character takes the place of the help basically. The demon berates her about her life and things she did there.
Â
It all took a little getting used too. There is really only one speacial effect during the play. The rest requires some imagination. No make up. No vomit. No head spinning. (Although there is a great head turning scene!) If you go to the link Justin posted above, there is a picture of Regan looking over her shoulder. That is Burke sitting on the bed so I guess you can guess what happens next!
Â
This play is really about faith and pretty much sticks to that. Theres a lot of scenes discussing faith. SOme of the added scenes are Burke talking to Karras about faith and how Burke had at one time was seriously considering becoming a priest but how he sold out as a director.
Â
A discussion between Chris and Karras about her lack of faith. The hypnotizing scene with Regan speaking backwards! YES! The demon berated Chris about letting her 1st child die when she was a struggling actress. The finale was different thern the book or the movie. They just didn't have a window to throw people out of.
Â
I didn't realize it at the time but all the males leads were the voice of the demon when they were “offstage”.
Â
Over all I think they did a great job and really stuck to the book. If they would have went with a big special effects laden production they would have put themselves in competition with the movie and that is a no win situation in my opinion.

ParticipantOk. I saw it last night. I enjoyed it quite a bit.
First off this is a very scaled down production. It is on a static set. The set is a church setting. However the whole play doesn’t take place in a church. A bit of imagination is involved here. Once the actors came to the stage they never left during the whole production. There is a confessional type “cage” around the set. If they are not in the scene they stand in the cage.
Richard Chamberland narrates the play. Some of the scenes are directly from the book. Some are new for the play.
I will continue with this in a bit…..

ParticipantKinda left us hanging! I'm leaving to go see it in a bit. I'll give a review later……

ParticipantYeah he was a good sport too! I didn't bring anything with me because I didn't think he'd sign anything. So after the Q&A he got kind of swarmed. I told my daughter I should have brought something. (I've got about a million things!) So as we were walking out they were handing out posters for the play. We started walking back in and he was coming out. I guess they had to clear the theater for the next show. So he moved into the lobby and continued signing. He seemed like a really patient, nice guy. Signed whatever anyone put in front of him!
etrigan69
ParticipantSomeone taped the Q&A with Mr. Friedkin last night. Not sure if anyone is even reading this crap but I had a really good time there anyway.

ParticipantSingle seat tickets went on sale today and I got mine. Some additional news straight from the horses mouth last night.
The play isn’t fully cast yet and they weren’t ready for announcements just yet. It looks like there will only be one set and it will take place in a church. They said there will be minimal special effects. The screenplay is based on the book and with Blatty’s blessing he riffed on some of the things that are only mentioned in passing. The one example he mentioned was Chris’s first child that died will be expanded upon in the play.
That’s all I remember at the moment. Mr. Friekin said he is excited to see what they do with it and gave props to the director and music composer.
