It is as hilarious as the theory of Burke molesting Regan! ;)Â

“It's an understandable misconception that Regan was talking to the astronaut, but during the commentary on the original DVD (not the Director's Cut), Friedkin explains that a few frames were taken out that would have clarified her comment.
She is actually talking to the maid, who is gathering clothing for the laundry, just behind the party goers we see. What she says, and I have checked the script, is “You're gonna dye up there”, meaning that the maid intends dying some of the clothes when she goes up to the laundry room (which is upstairs and can be glimpsed when Karras first approaches the bedroom – we briefly see the maid loading the washing machine over his right shoulder).
Friedkin explains that the scene was intended to give an early, seemingly insignificant pointer to Regan's powers of prescience. His intention was to cut to a bottle of dye in the laundry room immediately afterwards, but these frames had to be excised due to time constraints. Regan's “dye” comment was left in by accident, and they decided to run with it when audiences assumed she meant “die”. “

What a bunch of lies! lol! Friedkin has never said anything of the sort on the commentaries about The Exorcist and Blatty states in the novel that Regan's remark was directed at the astronaut.
