Why is blue such a prominent color in The Exorcist?

Have you noticed that most of the clothes Linda/Ellen wear are blue? Regan's bedsheets are blue too. Why blue?

Yes. To some degree, I've always noticed the color blue (not the tinting of film either). Perhaps it's just an accident from the set designers and wardrobe. I do recall that EII director, John Boorman, intentionally wanted to exclude or subdue the color green. Maybe Friedkin or Blatty wanted blue to represent the cold nature of things to come during the freezing exorcism?

Nah… Fatherb is right. I'm sure that's what Friedkin thought, as well. When it comes to Friedkin &The Exorcist there's no such thing as just a coincidence.

Oh yeah I just remembered Friedkin saying in the 25th anniversary DVD commentary that he didn't like one of the 'extras' clothes color, it was while filming the exterior scene with Ellen and Jason Miller. He had to stop shooting the scene and ask the guy to go away or something like that. I'm pretty sure he said that.

That's true, Sof. Also remember what Roizman or another crew member said about how long it took to film the nuns during Chris's walk home? Friedkin didn't like the way the wind was blowing the nuns' habits … a ridculous number of reshoots.

Didn't some of the sets in Exorcist 2 lack blue entirely?  Probably no connection.

I would say no connection at all. Look at the wonder of one and the disaster of two.

There isn't much of a connection between 1 and 2. When I first watched it, I was expecting a lot more. It was quite a let down.
