I like the remake more, but the original is still a classic.

My heart belongs to the original. Altho the remake wasn’t that bad.

I am very outspoken on my opinions of remakes, but the 2004 version aint that bad. As Wes Craven has recently said,…’the original still exists, you can still watch it..’

I love the original, its opressive tone and almost dirge-like pacing.

One of the greatest aspects of the original is the little nuances of brilliance. IE, the camera work is beyond any horror film of the era (the dolly under the swing shot is in the forefront of my reasoning). The auditory world created, not by music but by sound is a beautiful thing. Using ambience to create a sense of dread is a difficult thing to do and it has it in spades.

The remake had great aesthetics, to be sure (original DP Daniel Pearl lensed the remake also), but I don’t think that Leatherface was as balls to the wall frightening as he was in the original trilogy.

Alll in all though, I’d watch TCM 2004 over The Fog 05 any day.

I agree with you that Leatherface wasn’t as frightening in the remake as the original but he was way cooler in the remake with the big chainsaw and the clothes

In the pool of urine that are all the post-2000 horror remakes, the Bay Remassacre was a solid object. Solid as in “solid waste”, that is.

Speaking of which, since Omen already got its bastard child, it’s practically inevitable that an insult (“remake”) of “The Exorcist” will go into production very soon. I think much depends on exactly the above… the Omen remake. If it brings in money (and sadly, I have no doubt that it will), I’ll bet The Exorcist will be designated the next victim… and we will start getting used to such pleasant, paid-for quotes as “Dakota Fanning shines as Regan McNeill”, “Marilyn Manson’s music richly illustrates the New Exorcist”, “Casper van Diem’s triumphant return as Father Karras is a true Hollywood Miracle” and, of course, “Tom Welling takes the screen by storm as Father Merrin”…

    Original, no contest.

Vess, I fear you may be correct. Even if the Omen remake is a complete pile of shit, it will still turn dollars at the box office and usher in remakes of even more classics. Exorcist, Shining, Werewolf in London… the list could be very long and very depressing.

Hell, I hear the Evil Dead remake is still going ahead.

Remake for me. Original isn’t bad, but it kinda bores me at times, remake doesn’t have that effect :p

A bad Exorcist remake would be the franchise’s last breath after the first gunshot that was ETB. 🙁

I dont think they should do a remake of Evil Dead because it’s already a very good movie

There’s no point remaking a film like Evil Dead. ED is a cult film.. known for being a gory classic. The remake will be known for being.. a remake. Like The Exorcist, there is no point trying to compete with a remake when it’s known for being a *something* of its time… if that makes any sense.
